In 1956 the world witnessed the Suez Canal crisis. 70 years later, we have the Strait of Hormuz crisis - which is basically the Suez crisis 2.0.
These vital waterways are both referred to as the 'jugular vein' that enables world trade. Whoever wins control of these waterways, wins power over the world.
I watched a two part series about the Suez crisis in 1956. UK's Channel 4 aired this last week. What an eye opener!! Britain and France both wanted control of the Suez canal and needed to remove the Egyptian leader, Nasser, from power. Nasser had nationalised the canal and placed it under the control of Egypt. Israel joined in the attack - in fact, Israel was the first to attack Egypt in this crisis. Nasser had made sure that Israel could not use the canal. It didn't take much for Britain and France to persuade Israel to help them. The entire mess was a tragedy of errors from beginning to end.
America and Russia put pressure on Britain to withdraw from the Suez - using economic sanctions. Both America and Russia did not want the UK and Europe having control of the Suez.
Britain and France had to eventually withdraw from this battle 'with their tail between their legs'. It was this that brought down Britain as a super power.
This Strait of Hormuz is a massive power play battle. It will soon draw in Russia and China. The world powers will all want control over this 'jugular'.
There are many fantastic documentaries on YT re the 1956 Suez crisis. I recommend watching as the deceit, lies and political interference were just as prolific as they are now.
As an aside - this entire, wretched debacle brought back the memory of the Suez Canal blockage of March 2021. That blockage seemed prophetic. The bizarre wind that drove the Ever Given container ship to wedge so perfectly - blocking the canal completely. A very informative link below with photographs. Almighty God used his winds to cause this wedge.
