"The Millennium Temple of Ezekiel and The King James Study Bible"

Hello John and Doves,

In this letter, I added the comments on Ezekiel's chapters 40 - 48 concerning the Millennial Temple that I found in my King James Study Bible.

And I included a youtube video where the author created a 3D image of the Temple and Temple Complex using Ezekiel's detailed descriptions.  He also noted what was NOT included in this Temple.  Which is a very interesting part of this video, imo.

King James Study Bible and Ezekiel's Millennial Temple:

My King James Study Bible, Thomas Nelson, 2017. had some comments about Ezekiel's Millennial Temple.  I've added them to this letter - this may help clear some things up or it may just create more questions.

Ezekiel was a priest at the time Nebuchadnezzar came against Judah.  Ezekiel was taken into captivity in 597 B.C.  For comparison, the prophet Daniel was taken to Babylon in 605 B.C.  Ezekiel's early prophecies "emphasize the impending disaster; his later prophecies stress Israel's future restoration, especially their glorious new temple."

"Almost all of Ezekiel's prophecies are in chronological order .."  The visions of the Millennial Temple come right after the Gog and Magog War prophecies.

"The final nine chapters (of the Book of Ezekiel) are clearly a unit.  They spell out the construction of a new temple and a new order of worship for Israel.  Much discussion has been engendered as to the identity of the temple described in these chapters.  The suggestions include the following:  1) It is an ideal temple that was never built or perhaps a rebuilding of Solomon's temple.  The measurements of this temple, however, do not fit those of Solomon's temple.  Also, the motivation for revealing nine chapters about a  temple never to be built is not apparent.  2)  It is Zerubbabel's temple, built after the Jews returned to the land.  The measurements of Zerubbabel's temple, however are nothing like the glorious temple envisioned by Ezekiel.  3) It is a figurative representation of the church.  This view is taken by amillennial scholars, who view all kingdom prophecies in the Old testament as harbinger of the New Testament church, which is said to be God's kingdom.  This view is inconsistent, since it takes Ezekiel's earlier prophecies, that ones that have been fulfilled, as literal, but the present prophecy of a rebuilt temple as figurative.  4)  It is a literal temple yet to be built.  In favor of this view is that fact that the measurements of the temple given in these chapters do not fit any temple or tabernacle mentioned in Scripture.  It therefore awaits fulfillment which can take place only in the time of Israel's blessing and restoration during the millennial reign of Christ."

"The new temple includes the traditional outer court and inner court as well as the building proper, adjacent buildings, outer walls and the altar.  The fact that Ezekiel would spend so much space describing the temple indicates its importance.  Actually upward of 50 chapters in the Bible are devoted to descriptions of the tabernacle and various temples.  In the Book of Ezekiel, however, the prophet shows clearly that the tragic departure of God's glory from the temple, described in chapters 10 and 11, is reversed in the future temple when the Spirit returns and fills it with glory.  God is not finished with His people.  They will yet see His glory."

"There is no reason that the millennial sacrifices cannot have the status of memorials to the work of Christ, just as the Old Testament sacrifices had their status as precursors of Christ's work...Others suggest that these sacrifices provide ritual cleansing of the temple area during the millennial reign of Christ."

"A new temple requires a new order of worship which is described here.  It includes special ministers...Also included are the Levites and the priests of Zadok....Finally offerings and feasts of the new worship are prescribed."

"Interestingly, only three of the six great annual feasts of Israel will be included in the new worship:  Passover, and Unleavened Bread, combined as one feast and the feast of Tabernacles.  The other three, the Feast of Pentecost, the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement, are left out presumably because the initiation of God's new program rendered those feasts obsolete."

"The most significant thing about the New Jerusalem is its new name:  the Lord is there."  Ezekiel told us that "God would again dwell in their midst in an even greater and more glorious sense."

"One feature of the millennial kingdom will be a rebuilt temple, complete with animal sacrifices...we might question the need for a temple or for the animal sacrifice in the next dispensation.  But the temple might 1) demonstrate God's holiness; 2) provide a dwelling place for the glory of God; 3) perpetuate a memorial of sacrifice; 4) become a center for divine government and 5) assure victory over the curse."  The sacrifices in the Millennium will be memorial."

"The glory which Ezekiel saw depart form the old city will one day return to a glorious new city with a new temple in the eschatological future."

Israel MyChannel And A Model of Ezekiel's Temple:

He said that some believe it will be a literal Temple.  Some believe it's just a symbol.  "Christians are especially troubled because this Temple describes animal sacrifices.  This does not fit well with the theology that Jesus was the final atonement for sin."  One reason given is these sacrifices remember Christ's sacrifice.  Another reason is the world will be much like it is now but with a righteous leader who will rule on the throne of David for a thousand years.  It will be a better place, but people will still sin.  The Temple, the altar, the priest will have to be purified by animal sacrifice.

He said that after studying these chapters in Ezekiel 'it is hard to believe that this is just some sort of symbol of a future reality'.  Ezekiel spent more than 1/6th of his writing on the Millennial Temple.  He noted that the Temple Institute plans to build a Temple similar to Solomon's and Herod's Temples.

Some Christians see this next Temple as the Antichrist Temple - the Third Temple of the Tribulation.  He said this is a very complex topic.  Similar events have already happened under Greek rule.  Antiochus Epiphanes desecrated the Temple when he sacrificed pigs on the altar of the Jewish Temple and forced Jews to worship the statue of Zeus in the Temple.  Many Christians believe Epiphanes is a picture of what will happen in End Times.  The Jewish people do not see the future Temple as part of the above events - they see it as something positive.  The Temple Institute's Temple is not Ezekiel's Temple.  The current Temple Mount is not large enough to fit the Millennial Temple complex.   The Temple is about 875 feet long and wide - the territory to keep Holy is 5,100 feet long and wide.  There will probably be a city around this Holy complex.

The Temple proper could fit the Temple Mount but the Holy complex would not fit.

In Chapter 42, the area around the Temple to keep Holy is 5,100 feet - a mile long.  The reed is used as a tool of measurement.  In the Revelation, the Mount of Olives will divide when Jesus steps on it.  Will a new mountain be created?  There will be a river that flows from the threshold to the east. One half of the river will empty in the Mediterranean Sea and one half will empty in the Dead Sea. (Zechariah)  The river will be 'life giving' and give life to everything in its path.  The Dead Sea will be resurrected to new life.

There are two sets of three gates - on the east, north and south.  The East Gate will be the most important.  For the Messiah.  The gate towers are 41.7 feet wide and 83.3 feet long and 100 feet high.  The gates themselves are 15 feet wide and 19.5 feet tall.  Decorated with palm trees.  There is an outer courtyard with 30 dining rooms on the east, south and north side - so there will be a lot of eating in the Millennial Temple.  All the gates look the same.  Except the East Gate.  The glory of God enters the Temple through the East Gate.  And the North Gate is used by the priests.  The priests are the sons of Zadok.  They minister to the Lord.  The inner court is a square.

Isaiah chapter 2 tells us about the mountain of the House of the Lord.  All the nations will go there to hear the Word of the Lord.  They will hammer their swords into plowshares...they will never again learn war.

There will be more dining buildings three stories high.  With galleries.

In the vision of Ezekiel in chapter 8 he reports on the departure of the glory of God from the Temple.  And in chapter 43, he reports the arrival of the glory of God back into the Temple.

Ezekiel's Temple becomes the culmination of God's plan for humanity.  Ultimately God's glory will return to Jerusalem to reside forever.

The altar is in the center of the Temple.  The number of Ezekiel's Temple is 25.  The number 25 appears 7 times in Ezekiel.  Double this to 50 - this appears 10 times in Ezekiel. We can see the numbers 25 and 50 a total of 17 times this demonstrates the essential number of 25.  The altar of burnt offering will probably have 25 steps.

What is not present in Ezekiel's Temple?  There are several objects missing.

1)  There is no veil in Ezekiel's Temple.  The veil that separates the most holy place from the Holy Place is not present.  A veil would block us from going into the most Holy Place.  Its absence shows us how accessible the Most Holy place is for all of us.

2)  And the altar of incense is not there...it represents prayer.  Because we will meet God face to face there is no need for prayer.

3)  And there is no place for the bread of the presence - because we will meet the Messiah because He is the Bread of Life.

4)  There are no lampstands.  In Solomon's Temple there were 10 lampstands.  They represent the light of the coming Messiah.  The Messiah is the Light itself.  The Messiah is the Light of the world - so there is no need for the lampstands.  God's glory will fill the House.  The East Gate will be shut after God's glory enters the sanctuary.  No need for a visible lamp.  God's glory will shine forever. The gate is closed and His glory will never leave again.

5)  There is no ark of the covenant.  Because everything inside the ark was fulfilled through the Messiah.

Thanks to Ezekiel's description of the temple, he was able to design a detailed model.
run time 27:52

After spending some time studying all of this, I can see how this Millennial Temple will become God's House forever.  His glory returns once again to be among man - and He will be their God and they will be His people.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Maranatha!
