"three sets of three"

(The four beasts are proclaiming three sets of three:)

Revelation 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

(The first set of three describes the LORD in attribute:)

"Holy, holy, holy,"

(The LORD is not only holy, and not only more than holy by repeating it twice, but far beyond our understanding of holy by repeating it thrice.
No doubt also holy in all three dimensions, as well as in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, these words, "holy", pointing to the LORD's omnipresence.)

"Lord God Almighty,"

(The second set of three describes the LORD's being.
He is Lord, he is God, and he is Almighty; each as a name or title beginning with a capital letter.
No doubt this as well lines up with the first set of three, where the Lord is holy, God is holy, and the Almighty is holy.
Since the three is used as a set, it lines up with the three as one, no doubt also reflecting on Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.)

"which was, and is, and is to come."

(The third set of three describes the eternality of the LORD, that he is omnipresent in time, as well as omnipresent in space.
Which was, describes him as the God of the past, and for us it reminds us that he has forgiven all our sins, and forgotten them.
And is, describes him as the God of the present, reminding us that he is always with us, and he is in us.
And is to come, describes him as the God of the future, he has promised us everlasting life with him.)

(But since there are three sets of three mentioned, it again describes the LORD in his essence.
That though he is one God, one divine essence, yet he exists simultaneously as the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Not three Gods, not three beings, not three essences - but one God, one being, one essence - yet still three.
The Father loves the Son, the Son always pleases the Father, and the Spirit glorifies the Son.
There is nothing in our natural world that is truly like that, so we cannot understand this naturally, but only with his Spirit, by his word.
John mentions this distinctly:)

I John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

(And Jesus, himself, referred to this, before ascending to heaven, mentioning "name" in singular, but then mentions the three:)

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

(The triplicate repeating of a word, or phrase, is also found in a few more scriptures - again with the word "holy":)

Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

(Or the phrase, "The temple of the LORD":)

Jeremiah 7:4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORDThe temple of the LORDThe temple of the LORD, are these.

(Or the word, "earth":)

Jeremiah 22:29 O earthearthearth, hear the word of the LORD.

(Or the word, "overturn":)

Ezekiel 21:27 I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.

(Or the word, "woe":)

Revelation 8:13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

(Do not these triplications again bring to mind that our God has revealed himself as three, but yet one?)
