JESUS RESURRECTED AND ASCENDED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK........

 

 

Jesus resurrected and ascended to heaven on the first day of the week which is Sunday according to :

 

Mark 16:9

"Now when Jesus was risen on  the first day of the week......"

 

Before Jesus resurrected  on Sunday He was dead in the grave for three days which were Thursday, Friday, and Saturday thus fulfilling the prophecy of Jonah according to :

 

Matthew 27:63

".........after three days I will rise again."

Mark 8:31

"........and after three days I will rise again."

 

Therefore Jesus was crucified to death on Wednesday , and  placed in the grave at sunset Wednesday evening. Hebrew days begin and end at sunset. From sunset Wednesday to sunset Saturday are the three days that Jesus was in the grave before resurrecting after sunset on Saturday which was then Sunday , the first day of the week.

What is commonly called Easter Sunday is also known as the "Feast of Firstfruits" because Jesus  is the "firstfruits of the dead"  , ie. the first to resurrect from being dead in a glorified body and then ascend to heaven.
