The news coming out about the Russian military build up on the border with Ukraine, is notable for the lack of strong responses from the NATO countries. Sure - Biden, Merkel, Macron etc., have all had something to say. It's what they are not saying is what is intriguing.

Putin's moves are blatant. It's now very apparent that Russia is not merely "sabre rattling" or "testing Biden's response". Putin means business. The mystery is.... what pushed his buttons? Putin would not have taken such unbelievable actions without knowing of a very real threat against Russian interests.

In the meantime - let's not assume that the USA lacks a certainty of the way forward. The very opposite is true. Putin has surprised everyone, but methinks he will be "surprised" back. The USA and it's NATO allies are not playing coy or huddling round in anxious groups, bewailing the Russian threat. They will be making their battle plans. Make no error. Major battle plans are afoot. Which is why Putin will not withdraw.

It's only a matter of time now.
