Hello John and Doves,
So much for taking a
year to 18 months to have a properly tested vaccine!
Here's one that could be available by this fall.
"A novel coronavirus vaccine that received funding from
the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has begun human
trials. The INO-4800 DNA vaccine from Inovio has shown
promise in preclinical trials, and the conclusions of Phase
1 study will be ready this summer. If successful, the
vaccine could be ready for emergency use as soon as this
fall."
One human trial started in the U.S. and one in
China. The FDA approved an application from Inovio
Pharmaceuticals under their program: Investigational
New Drug.
As the name implies, this is a DNA vaccine and has worked
well in the animal testing. Producing a large immune
response with antibodies persisting over time. This drug has
a "specifically engineered genetic structure" that's
injected into the human body.

In the U.S. 40 volunteers were selected for the
inoculations in Phase 1.
So what is a DNA vaccine? Basically, it's a vaccine
that is used to inject DNA into an animal system
-example: horse, human, etc. It is a vaccine
made by 'the injection with genetically engineered plasmid
containing the DNA sequence encoding the antigen against
which an immune response is sought so cells directly produce
an antibody, producing a protective immunological
response."

Plasmids are small molecules of DNA that are not
associated with chromosomes that can replicate
independently; commonly found in bacteria. This DNA
can be engineered to match an antigen one wants in a
vaccine. The DNA contains a particular antigen's
coding sequences (in this case, the antigen is the
coronavirus SARS-CoV-2) - once this coding sequence is in
the tissue, this antigen is produced in large enough
quantities by the plasmid to produce a strong immune
response. This antigen looks like and mimics the
coronavirus. So the body starts the production of
specific antibodies.
DNA vaccines are cost-efficient to produce, have a long
shelf-life, are easy to manufacture, are safe to handle,
have good biocompatibility (appear clinically safe); and
specifically target what the vaccine is being made
against. All of this makes these types of vaccines a
good possibility for a future COVID-19 vaccine. Maybe
even being available much sooner that a year to 18 months.
Currently there are no approved DNA vaccines for human
use. There is a vaccine approved for West Nile Virus
in horses that is a DNA vaccine.
There is also a research group working on a nasal spray
for this coronavirus that's also DNA- based.
"Researchers at University of Waterloo are developing a
DNA-based vaccine for COVID-19 that will be delivered
through a nasal spray. This vaccine will be engineered
to mimic SARS-CoV-2, that virus which causes COVID-19...Once
it gets into those cells they will construct what looks like
and mimics the (COVID-19) virus and that will then allow for
an antibody response against actual infections."

The nasal spray will trigger an immune response in the
nasal cavities. They are hoping to have preclinical
trials completed by April 2021.
So now we have the rush to produce a vaccine for us.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
