"One Messiah and Two Comings"

Did Daniel give us the year for Messiah's death AND the year he will take his bride?
The answer is YES – and if my hypothesis below is correct it will be in 2016!

One Messiah and Two Comings

Two Fulfillments of Daniel 9:25

Luke 19:41-44

And when He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, "If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

Foreknowledge

o Israel was expected to know beforehand that Messiah was due!

o How? By the prophets who foretold of his coming.

o One prophet even told them the year Messiah was to come as the Lamb of God, in the Acceptable Year of Yahuwah.

o But they did not know because the Pharisees convinced them that the scriptures were not to be taken literally – so they were lulled into a metaphorically induced sleep!

o Yes there are parables, and there is symbolism, but do not listen to anyone who says the scriptures are just metaphors.

Two Messiahs?

o The concept of two comings of one Messiah was missed by almost everyone before Jesus (Yahshua in Hebrew).

o The Jews recognized that there were two separate times for Messiah but they misunderstood the prophecies by interpreting there would be two different Messiahs:

o This is because they thought that he was to be just a man so they assumed there must be two men.

The One-To-One Trap

o There are many Messianic prophecies distinctly separate for each Messiah, but there are others that were given in two parts or designed for multiple fulfillments.

o Never assume all prophecy is given once to be fulfilled once!

o These compound prophecies are easily missed and we can be trapped by tradition that teaches a single fulfillment.

o Studying the many split and dual prophecies is beyond my purpose here but we will look at two well known split prophecies.

Split Prophecy

o Isaiah 61 is a perfect example of a split prophecy.

o In Luke 4 Jesus read only 61:1-2a and stopped, leaving the rest of the chapter unspoken before declaring the prophecy fulfilled in their hearing.

o Why? Because the rest is clearly for fulfillment at a future time.

o Even the very next phrase of verse 2, "and the day of vengeance of our God" was not to be fulfilled then.

Another Famous Split

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be on his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6

o The first part is obviously when Jesus was born as a baby boy, but him being the head of all government and having a universal recognition of who he is has a future fulfillment in the Millennium, Elohim’s Sabbath day.

A Missed Split Prophecy

o There is another very important split prophecy in Daniel that has been missed!

o Why it is still not recognized today is largely due to an idea created over a century ago by a well respected person.

o It has been repeated so often that almost everyone thinks it is gospel truth.

o The details of his hypothesis are so amazingly "coincidental" that after hearing this idea most people then declare Daniel 9 fulfilled and finished without looking any deeper.

173880 Days

o Sir Robert Anderson wrote a book in 1895 called The Coming Prince.

o In it he stated a hypothesis that Daniel 9 predicts the first arrival of Messiah in Jerusalem on a donkey – to the day!

o From the proposed date of an ancient biblical decree until his believed date for Palm Sunday is 173880 magically calculated days.

o But – even if we believe his assumptions, he was still wrong by three days!

Anderson’s Assumptions

o His hypothesis is based on several faulty assumptions:

1. A belief that God uses an unbiblical 360 day calendar for calculating prophecy.

2. A belief that we know the year, and even the day, when Artaxerxes gave his command to rebuild Jerusalem.

3. A belief that Jesus was crucified in 32 AD (after 3.5 years of ministry).

A Pharisee's Tradition

o Nowhere in scripture does it mention that God uses a 360 day calendar – or show this by example!

o This is found only in Pharisaic writings – in the Talmud.

o God used days, months, or years to indicate precision!

o God's calendar is set by the lights in the heavens per Genesis – 24 hours per day, 29.53 days per month, and 12 or 13 months per year (determined by the barley ripeness).

o Prophetic years are always counted by solar years.

Messed Up Calendars

o Axiom:
The further you go back in time the more dubious the dates.

o Historians often declare dates matter-of-factly but the truth is that ancient dates usually can't be agreed upon.

o We can’t "prove" when Jesus was born so how can we accurately pin any dates previous to it!

o Using secular dates to prove prophetic year counts, yet alone day counts, is a fool's mission.

o Too often we find people squeezing biblical dates into our calendars when the opposite should be done!

Lost History

o Who gave the command to rebuild Jerusalem and when it was given was known in Jesus' time, four centuries later.

o We now cannot know with any certainty when this was on our modern calendar.

o There is almost no doubt that it was Artaxerxes who gave the command as recorded in Nehemiah 2, and that it was given in the first month of the year – but it cannot have happened in the year commonly believed.

o I say – find exactly what scripture says and know that is the truth, regardless if we can pin it to our calendar.

Belief <> Truth

o There are two closely related beliefs commonly held today about Jesus that are not in the bible.

1. Jesus' ministry was 3.5 years in length.

2. Jesus was crucified at the age of 33 in 32 AD.

o I have offered people money if they can find these in their bibles but no one has come to collect.

o Neither of these tenets can be proved and that so many brilliant scholars cannot agree should be ample evidence.

How Long?

o We are given the length of his ministry in two scriptures but few recognize them because it counters religious tradition.

"…To preach the acceptable year of YHWH."
– Isaiah 61:2, and quoted by Jesus in Luke 4:19

o When did Jesus read this?

o At the beginning of his ministry!

o Did he say "the acceptable 3.5 years of YHWH"?

Second Witness

"Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year…" – Exodus 12:5

o God’s Lamb had to be sinless, had to be a man, and had to be one year old!

"Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." – Luke 1:29

o From when John the Baptist declared him the Lamb of God until the crucifixion was one year!

When?

o The Jews gave us historical records that tell us clues for which year he died – but they are also counter to tradition.

o Several accounts of miraculous events were recorded that could only be signs from above.

40 Years Of Miracles

o "Forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the western light went out, the crimson thread remained crimson, and the lot for the Lord always came up in the left hand. They would close the gates of the Temple by night and get up in the morning and find them wide open." – Jerusalem Talmud

o The details of these miracles are numerous and could be a lengthy sermon – but the important question to ask is when did they say these miracles started happening?

o In 30 AD – giving Israel 40 years to repent before the temple's destruction in 70 AD!

The Great Countdowns

o The following passage from Daniel is the most revealing prophecy in the Word regarding the timing of the arrival of Messiah!

o If you have been a believer for years you might say, "Yes, I am very familiar with that one."

o I am here to say that you have not seen half of what I am about to show you!

o Let's first read the verses and then discern what they are saying.

Daniel 9:24 (Gabriel speaking)

Seventy weeks have been decreed on your people and on your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.

Daniel 9:25

And know and discern that from the issuing of the word to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and wall, even in times of distress.

Daniel 9:26

Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary [the holy]. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

"Seventy Sevens"

o Like many languages, Hebrew has masculine and feminine word forms.

o Shabbat is the word for Sabbath, the 7th day, and the plural is Shabbatot.

o It is always feminine – except here where it is masculine: Shabbaim.

o This is because it is seventy "weeks" of years, or 490 years that are decreed.

Not Any Old Seven

o Everyone knows about our week of days ending on the seventh day, the Sabbath.

o But God also ordained a week of years in Leviticus 25 that ends in a Sabbath year called the Shmitah year.

o Daniel’s Shabaim of years do not start and end on any random year – they are aligned precisely to these particular weeks of years!

o It is not known for sure when this seven year period starts and ends (even though the Jews think they know)...

o …but we have some clues!

The Jews May Be Correct

o Well, almost correct – even if they have the correct year, they are off by half a year.

o God's year always has, and always will begin in the spring (northern hemisphere) around March or April.

o In Exodus 12:2 God corrected their calendar because they had adopted the Egyptian calendar.

o In the 70 year exile they adopted the Babylonian calendar (along with their names for the months).

o Later they correctly began counting months in the spring, but continued to count years on the seventh month.

"Have Been Decreed"

o Decreed by whom?

o God the Father – YaHuWaH!

o The messenger of this decree was the messenger Gabriel which helps to explain the next words…

"On Your People"

o Whose people?

o Daniel was a Hebrew.

o His people were the Hebrews, who we today call Jews.

"And On Your Holy City"

o Whose city?

o The city that was holy to the Hebrews – Jerusalem.

o This is confirmed in the next verse.

To Do List

o There are six items in this list of things that God says will be done by the end of the 490 years.

o I cannot take the time to go into each of these in depth so I will give you these items in their literal Hebrew meanings.

Word For Word:

1. To stop the rebellion,

2. and to seal the sins,

3. and to make atonement iniquity,

4. and to bring justice/righteousness ages long,

5. and to seal the vision and prophet,

6. and to anoint holy holies.

The Meaning?

o Scholars are still arguing over their exact meanings but we can all understand the general thrust…

o …and it is a certainty that they have not all been accomplished! Do you see any everlasting justice and righteousness?

o Meaning – the 490 years is not over!

The Big Pause

o It is obvious that these 490 years cannot be continuous from the time of Nehemiah.

o There has to be a break somewhere – a pause.

o When is it and how long is it?

o This will become clear soon.

"And Know And Discern"

o This is a command – God would not ask of us something we cannot do.

o We could not fully understood Daniel before certain events had taken place but we're supposed to try.

But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and {spiritual} knowledge shall be increased. – Daniel 12:4

o The Hebrew word for knowledge here, HaDat, is the knowledge of the things of God*.

o The full understanding was sealed until now, the end this age, when our knowledge about this book will increase.

"That >From The Issuing Of The Word"

o This is a verbal decree that must be of historical significance, documented, and from a person in a position of authority.

o What is the decree?

"To Restore And Rebuild Jerusalem"

o In modern English, the word Restore has changed in meaning to be qualitative – such as restoring an antique.

o However, the Hebrew word, LaHashib, does not mean to fix or to renew!

o It means to return, bring back, or reinstate.

o This is very significant to the overall meaning!

o From here on I will substitute Return for Restore in this verse as the intended meaning.

"Until Messiah the Prince"

o Please note the italic "the" which means it was supplied for English grammar.

o It is not "the Messiah the Prince“, which would be HaMashiach HaNagid…

o …but Mashiach Nagid, which is literally: Anointed Ruler.

o We know that Jesus, Yahshua, was the Lamb of Elohim that came first – but he was not then Messiah Ruler!

o The next time he will be Ruler and Prince!

"There Will Be Seven Weeks"

o These seven weeks are Shabbaim, meaning seven weeks of years aligned to the Shmitah cycle.

o This is equal to 49 years.

o This is a good place to tell you that the 50th year after every 49 is a Jubilee or Yubel year.

o As far as anyone has been able to determine, the Israelites never observed the Jubilee year as commanded.

o It is commonly believed, due to scriptural hints, that the Messiah will return on a Jubilee year – but no one knows when the Jubilee cycle is!

"And Sixty-Two Weeks"

o These are also Shabaim, weeks aligned to the Shmitah cycle.

o Notice that there are two distinct time periods, 7 weeks and 62 weeks that add up to 69 weeks, leaving 1 week of the 70 to complete his tasks.

o This tells us there are three periods: 7 shabaim-weeks, 62 shabaim-weeks, and 1 shabbat-week.

o This calculates to 49 years, plus 434 years, plus 7 years, which is a total of 490 years.

"It Will Be Built Again"

o It, being Jerusalem, will be built again.

o Mysteriously, the word Built is plural, which grammatically does not make sense until we find the key.

"With Plaza And Wall/Moat"

o Rahub is often translated as Street, but its meaning is a broad place, square, or plaza.

o I included both Wall and Moat, as most translations render it, but this word, WeCharus, is an unsolved mystery.

o It appears 18 times in the Old Testament and this is the only time it is translated as Wall or Moat. Why?

o Its meaning is a mystery – 6x it is translated gold, 5x diligent, 4x thresher, and 2x decision.

o I will indicate this as the <mystery word> until the end.

"Even In Times Of Distress"

o The English translation is hiding something from you!

o There should be a "the" in front of "times" as in the Hebrew!

o If we say, "There were terrible times during the war", we mean that multiple events occurred during one time period.

o However, in Hebrew it is "the times" which stresses two or more different times.

o It is not "a time of distress" but "the times of distress" in plural – and in this case it is two times!

Verse 26

o Due to limited time and space I will only dig into the first part of this verse.

o The rest is important to the overall prophecy but is not the focus of my message.

"Then After The Sixty-Nine Weeks"

o Hold on! Back up!

o Is that what it really says?

o I purposely misquoted this phrase. Do you see the error?

o It is 62 weeks – not 69 weeks!

o This is a small detail with HUGE significance, and one of the keys to seeing the error in the traditional interpretation of this prophecy!

Erroneous Tradition

o God purposely specified two separate time periods!

o We can't flippantly add these together without a good reason – but that is what most expositors have done!

o If verse 26 said "after sixty-nine weeks" then this would be license to add them.

o Unless it can be clearly shown that there was some notable event pointed to in scripture that happened between the 7 weeks the 62 weeks after which Jesus died, then we must look for the reason for distinct, separated periods of time.

"The Messiah Will Be Cut Off…"

He was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due. – Isaiah 53:8

Sir Isaac Newton

o Isaac Newton was a genius who lived 300 years ago.

o He changed the world of science and we are still using his laws and mathematics from Newtonian physics.

o Most people don't know that he was a devout believer in Messiah Jesus and spent more time studying the bible than physics, astronomy, and chemistry combined.

o He knew Hebrew well and stated resolutely that the 7 weeks and 62 weeks should not be added together!

A New Proposition

o I think Newton was right – and I think I may have the rest of the solution to this prophecy puzzle.

o Did you notice the pairs of thoughts and words in verse 25?

Duality Throughout

o This is a split prophecy for two separate ministries of Messiah – not a single prophecy fulfilled and done with!

o One was fulfilled in the first century but the other is for the twenty first century.

o The first ministration was after 62 weeks, the second will be after 7 weeks…

o …leaving 1 week, the 70th week, for the time of testing, the Tribulation, at the end of which all 6 declarations in verse 24 will be accomplished!

o It may be clear to you now but if you are still puzzled let me split the two countdowns visually to demonstrate it.

o Note that all the pairs are backwards chronologically.

o This is a bit unusual but when God makes lists it is often in order of importance and it is possible that this was recorded in order of importance rather than in time sequence.

If This Is Correct

o If Messiah was killed on Passover in the spring of 30 AD then Artaxerxes gave the first command to rebuild Jerusalem 434 years earlier in 403 BC.

o This is about 42 years later than the traditional date.

o If Jerusalem was returned to Israel and someone gave a command to take it back, then when did this happen and who did it?

o If this could be known, then 49 years later Messiah should return to do his second work!

The Second Command

o At sunrise on June 7, 1967, during the Six Day War, the command to take back the Old City of Jerusalem was given by General Moshe (Moses) Dayan.

o When they had captured it and arrived at the Temple Mount, General Shlomo (Solomon) Goren, Chaplain of the IDF gave a famous declaration (shortened here):

o "I am speaking to you from the plaza of the Western Wall, the remnant of our Holy Temple." …
"This year in Jerusalem – rebuilt!"

Second Work

o The first work certainly included "And to make atonement iniquity" when Yahshua was "cut off".

o What work will he do the second time?

o I believe it is the resurrection of the dead believers and the transformation of the living believers.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in the Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive who remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord. – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Did You Do The Math?

o Add it up – 49 years from the spring of 1967 is spring 2016.

o Am I setting a date for the Resurrection & Rapture (R&R)?

o No, because I don't know for sure that this was the command and there are other possible variables – and I don't know on which day in the spring it will be.

o I am guesstimating 2016 may be the year, and I believe our bridal call will be between Resurrection Day [Bikkurim] and Pentecost [Shavuot] (inclusive), in whichever year it is.

What About Our <Mystery Word>

Peshitta Aramaic Version of Daniel 9:25
Thou shalt know and understand from the decreeing of the word to return and build Jerusalem, to the coming of the anointed king, is seven weeks and sixty-two weeks, to return and build Jerusalem, its wall, and its palace [temple], at the end of the age.

o If the Aramaic was translated very early from Hebrew, or Daniel was in all Aramaic to begin with, then this could be a prophecy of two temples being rebuilt!

o One of the translations of WeCharus is gold and another is thresher, and the temple was covered in gold and built on a threshing floor!

Could It Be True?

o Daniel gave the year that the Lamb of God would be sacrificed.

o Is it really possible that Daniel also recorded the year when Jesus is coming for his bride?

o If he told us what year he would come the first time, why not the next time?

o Didn't Jesus chastise the Jews for not knowing his coming?

o Yes, read the following again…

Luke 19:41,44

…because you did not know the time of your visitation."

What About Us?

o Will we also “not know the time" of our visitation?

o Will we fail to "know and discern" as commanded?

o Will we ignore his command to watch?

Remember therefore how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. – Revelation 3:3

o The opposite is also true – if we do watch, we will know the hour he will come to us!
