""Perilous Times" Word Study"

Readers -

Paul writes about the Last Days, the last days we find ourselves in:

2 Timothy 3:1

"and know this also in the last days perilous times shall come ..."

Paul writes that they will be perilous.

That word "perilous" is Strong's greek word 5467 "chelpos".

It appears in only two verses in the New Testament; Second Timothy quoted above and Matthew 8:28 -

"And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce (5467g), so that no man might pass by that way."

Let the Bible interpret itself.

The entire chapter of Second Timothy is grim enough - but looking at it's definition in Matthew 8:28 really gives the reader clarity.

The "perilous times" Paul writes that will occur in the last days are days characterized by demon possessed violence, savage and fierce. Read the Gospel accounts of the Gergesenes men who lived in the tombs. Chains were of no use to hold them, they attacked any one who came their way, and they lived among the dead. Legions of devils possessed them.

This is Bible Prophecy. Imagine a world where the restrainer is removed, and the dragon is loose; its found in Matthew 8:28.

I feel led to write a short note to those who may read this now or in the future who do not know the Lord Jesus as Savior and Lord:

Time is running out. You have only one option for eternal salvation. God did not spare His best, but He nailed His only Son, the Lord Jesus the Christ, to a cross for the sins you, me and the rest of humanity have committed against Him. God loves you. God does not want to go through eternity without you. There is a door standing open in heaven for you to walk through (Revelation 4:1) - but you must believe that Jesus died for your sins and was raised from the dead, otherwise you will never go through it.

Revelation 3:20
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Romans 10:9
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Jesus is Lord.
