Hi John
Some time ago the Lord led me to read the
Bible using the Hebrew/Greek concordances. I discovered that there are
many meanings buried in the specific Hebrew/Greek words used and
exploration of their root words and branch words revealed even more of
the meaning behind the Bible verses.
Recently the Lord showed me
that Matthew 21:2-10 which describes Jesus triumphal entry into
Jerusalem contained some interesting revelations about the ministry of
the Two Witnesses which I would like to share below. Please pray for
the discernment of the Holy Spirit as always.
Ministry of the Two Witnesses
Matthew
21:1-10 describes the Lord commissioning his two disciples [the two
witnesses??] at the “house of unripe figs” [Bethphage, referring to the
unsaved nation of Israel] and sending them to the “keimai” (villages,
country towns) first.
The two witnesses preach Jesus and
loose/dissolve the spiritual bonds leading to the saving knowledge of
Jesus among the "ochlos" (crowd, multitude, common people). The donkey and her colt could be an imagery of the nation of Israel who will now bear the Lord Jesus and take on the ministry of His Kingdom in the world.
“Pleithos”
(very many) are saved and they preach Jesus everywhere and the Gospel
spreads into the city of Jerusalem and the whole city is stirred. These
are the group described as laying their cloaks on the road ("hodos" -
the road, way) preparing the way of the Lord Jesus into Jerusalem.
Another
group of believers who are described as cutting down branches and
spreading them on the road are ones who are “cut to their heart”. They
lament, mourn and repent the sin of Israel in crucifying their Messiah.
Matthew 21:1-10
Note: Words in green are my paraphrase.
21 When they had approached Jerusalem [city of peace] and had come to Bethphage [house of unripe figs, a village on the Mount of Olives], at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent [apostello - send away, commission] two disciples,
2 saying to them, “Go [poreomai
- to transport, moving something from one destination (port) to
another; to go or depart, to reaching the particular destination] into the village [keimai - village, country town] opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied [deo - to be in bonds; dei - it is necessary; deomai - I request, beg, beseech, pray; be in deep personal need because of lack] there and a colt with her; untie [luo - to release what has been held back, to dissolve, to loose] them and bring [ago - to lead] them to Me.
3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5 “Say to the daughter of Zion [signpost, monument, conspicuousness],
‘Behold [horao - to stare at, discern clearly, perceive, attend] your King is coming to you,
Gentle [praus - gentleness (reserve) and strength], and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal [huios - a son by birth, sharing the same nature as his father] of a beast of burden [hupozugion - animal under yoke].’”
6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them,
7 and brought [ago - to lead, to bring] the donkey and the colt, and laid [epitithemi - to place upon] their coats [himation - cloak, outer garment, "mantle"] on them; and He sat on [epikathizo - to set down; "dwell"] the coats.
8 Most [pleithos - very numerous] of the crowd [ochlos - multitude, the common people] spread [stronnuo - to spread, make a bed; stereos - solid, stable, immovable, standing fast without buckling or giving way (steadfast)] their coats in the road [hodos - the way], and others [allos - another of the same kind] were cutting [kopto - I beat my breast in sorrow or lamentation; cut to the heart] branches [klados - a branch; klao - to break bread] from the trees and spreading them in the road.
9 The crowds going ahead [proago - to lead forth, go before] of Him, and those who followed [akoluotheo - to accompany, follow “keleuthos” the way], were shouting [krazo - cry, exclaim, entreat loudly with an urgent scream],
“Hosanna [“save now”, “please save”] to the Son of David;
Blessed [eulogeo - I am blessed, praise] is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest!”
10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all [pas - all, the whole, every kind of] the city [polis - city, the inhabitants of the city] was stirred [seio - to rock, vibrate, agitate], saying, “Who is this?”
11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Shalom
