I read Barry's excellent post on how the Lord gave him understanding on the somewhat puzzling Wineskin parable.

Like many I was also puzzled by this. But my thoughts were, aged wine certainly tastes better then new wine, so I don't get it.

But when I read another translation it made sense.

I was using a Children's Living Translation to read to my kids and wife. English is her second language. I found the King James wording too hard to understand for my family so I was always trying to rephrase it anyway. Why pretend you understand something when you really don't?

Basically what it said was, "the old ways are the best instead of the old wine is the best"

So they were saying they would rather lean on tradition then actually hear from God and then be responsible to obey. Sort of like an excuse to ignore God.

Now The King James is a powerful translation, but contrary to what some say, it is not perfect, so don't listen to the demonizers of other legitimate translations.I am not saying that the NLT is perfect either, just don't throw the baby out with the bath water

Here is another example re the word Corban and honoring parents

I could never understand this in the KJV until I read it in another version.
