"To: Jovial Re: Could A Pope This Humble Really Be The False Prophet?"

In response to your post called Could A Pope This Humble Really Be the False Prophet? at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/apr2013/jovial42-2.htm , I think the Daniel 11:36 verse that you gave us to show a man with a big ego sounds more like the son of Perdition in 2 Thess. 2:3-4 or the first beast whose mortal wound was healed in Rev. 13 rather than the false prophet.  Below are the Bible verses to compare:

Daniel 11:36-37,  "And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all."

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, "Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."

Revelation 13:5-6, "And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven."

So it doesn't sound like the Pope as a humble man would fit the role in these 3 verses above.  However, he might be a better fit for the role of the false prophet of  Rev. 13:11-18 as "another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon."  Rev. 12:9 tells us that the great dragon was the old serpent, the Devil and Satan.  As you know the Serpent deceived Eve in the garden of Eden.  So the false prophet who speaks as a dragon will deceive others.  2 Corinthians 11:14-15 says, "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

Also like Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world and who has power to forgive sins, the Pope according to Catholic Church doctrine has the power to forgive sins and to excommunicate Catholics.  Don't forget that during the Spanish Inquistion, the people considered heretics by the Catholic Church were hunted down, tortured and killed.  Likewise those who don't worship the image of the beast according to Rev. 13:15 will also be killed.  The false prophet according to Rev. 13:15 says to them that dwell on earth, "that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."  Since the Roman Catholic Church already has statues of the Virgin Mary and other saints within their churches, and there are 140 statues of saints on the colonades at St. Peter's Bascilica Square in Rome according to the page at http://saintpetersbasilica.org/Exterior/Colonnades/Saints-List-Colonnades.htm how much of a problem would it be for the Pope (if he turns out to be the false prophet) to order the people to build the image of the beast that must be worshipped.

Now we don't know yet if the present Pope is really the false prophet of Rev. 13 or not, but our Lord Jesus told us to beware of wolves in sheep's clothing so a wolf is not going to look like a wolf if he has sheep's clothing on and he looks like a part of the flock of sheep. What better place for a wolf disguised as a sheep to hide in the midst of a flock of sheep. Not only did the Pope forego living in the Papal apartment to live in the 2 room Vatican Hotel with other Catholic priests or scholars in a communal type living, he also called in person to cancel his own newspaper subscription in Argentina and he also went in person to pay his hotel bill after the Papal conclave when one of his assistants could have done it for him. You also see him out among the people which is giving those assigned to his security a nightmare.  Actually he's acting quite like Jesus who served others rather than magnifying himself which makes me kind of suspicious because how many people would expect a humble person to be a false prophet or the false prophet of Rev. 13.  Humility would be a perfect disguise for a false prophet to deceive others because no one would arrive on the scene to say, "I am the false prophet that is going to deceive you."  A false prophet would want to be disguised as someone that could be trusted rather than someone that can deceive you which is why we have to wait and see what fruits that the Pope bears to see whether they be good or evil.  However, the Pope is in the perfect leadership role to lead millions astray if he does turn out to be the false prophet of Rev. 13.  And if he does turn out to be the false prophet, the true believers of Jesus Christ will be considered the heretics that will be killed for not worshipping the image of the beast.
