"What is the "canon"of
scripture...and who determined the boundaries?"
Much of what is said in Genesis chapter 6
about the Nephilim (giants) that are associated with the
"days of Noah" is explained and clarified in the Book of
Enoch as well as other "extra-canonical" books of the
bible. But who determined the "canon" anyway?
Has it remained the same throughout history, or has it
changed from time to time? The word "canon" is a rule
(of faith and practice), or a boundary. It's the same
word "rule" used in Galatians 6:16 as a way of living.
There are very many Christians who refuse to read any of
these books because they are said to NOT be part of the
"canon" of the Bible. My question is who's choice was
it? Were they reliable? If they were men, they
were fallible. The Bible quotes the Book of Jasher
(Joshua 10:13 and II Sam. 1:18), and the Book of Enoch is
referred to in Jude 1:14. These books were widely read
in the early NT times, including the LXX! ....until someone
determined they are not considered a part of the bible.
This is just one article I found on who determined what was
to be, or not be, in our present Bible. It's very
interesting:

I guess we just have
to determine within ourselves what information would be
of value in bringing us to the truth....or what
information is not.
