Dear Doves,
NOTE: If this was already a subject of a past Five Doves article, I apologize for the repeat. This is the first I had heard of this occurrence.
After winning the Stanley Cup Championship, the Boston Bruins were invited to the White House to meet the President. The invitation was accepted and the team promptly went out for a visit. However, there was one exception.
Their goaltender, Tim Thomas, refused to attend. Arguably the best goalie in the NHL, and certainly a vital reason for the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup, offered the following reason for his refusal (http://www.calgarysun.com/2012/04/16/charas-goal-silences-caps-crowd):
“At that time, Thomas, explaining his reasoning for avoiding the ceremony, wrote on his Facebook page: “I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.”
When the defending Conn Smythe winner skated onto the ice for the warmup prior to Game 3, he was greeted by cutouts of Obama’s head along with various posters.”
The mocking with the AC’s cutouts happened last night when the Boston Bruins were in Washington to play the Capitols. The Facebook post happened last year. However, the above quote in the newspaper was just the cut off version. Here was the entire post on Facebook by Tim Thomas:
“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL. This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"
Interestingly, Tim Thomas is a devout and out-spoken Christian. Therefore, as can be expected in this day and age, the media loves to pounce on Tim whenever they can. However, I personally wonder if Tim had any clue that he was actually turning down an invitation to meet the Anti-Christ when he declined this invitation?
Any way you look at this refusal, Tim is a stand-up guy who loves the Lord enough to risk ridicule for Him. You have to admire that.
Keep looking up!! Won’t be long now!! MARANATHA!!
