Of course the Mormon website is not going to tell you the truth..they lie, they believe a lie. The fundamentals of Mormonism are this: That god is the product of another god and his wife who live on the planet Kolob. That Jesus and Lucifer are brothers, that the god of this world came to the "boys" and asked them to come up with an idea to "save" man. God, the father, liked Jesus' plan the best. Here is a link to an article by mormonmatters (a mormon website) defending the "weirdness" of their beliefs..he is not apologizing for believing what I just wrote above he is saying that instead of trying to mitigate the differences between mormons and evangelicals they should accentuate it! http://mormonmatters.org/2008/01/10/planet-kolob-to-mormons-its-not-our-weird-beliefs-its-our-credibility/ and here is an article from an ex mormon explaining what it is that they do believe - http://exmormon.org/d6/drupal/fourteen Here are the 13 articles of Faith - Mormonism: 13 Articles of Faith 1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. [they believe that each are separate beings not triune] 2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.[everyone must atone for their own sin - there is no need for the cross] 3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.[works + Christ = salvation -ish] 4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.[not faith in Christ for salvation, just that he suffered in the garden for sins in general - not specific, they also believe that they can baptize the dead into a different category of heaven] 5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.[they believe in living prophets that can change what God says] 6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth. 7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.[but if you pray in the spirit around these people they will think you're nuts] 8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.[so really they do not believe that the Bible is the unerring word of God and feel free to change it at will] 9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.[they believe that God is arbitrary and changes] 10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.[this should be especially interesting to those who would have Romney president - see article below about what the mormon church plans for America] 11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may. 12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.[except when they don't] 13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. [and they wear special underwear to remind them of these things] Make sure you really read article #8 that is saying that they don't believe the Bible because they do not believe it is the unerring word of God! Joseph Smith has his own translation - it is different. They specifically believe that if you do all of the "things" that you are supposed to do, including getting married in the temple, which if your family is not also mormon they cannot attend, you will become god also and have your own little planet to populate with your plural wives.(so you can never really know if you are "good enough" to get to the highest heaven) There is also an "almost got there heaven" that they believe evangelicals will go to. Though the official position of the mormon church is that polygamy is a thing of the past, really it is not. They still seal multiple women to each man so that in the after life they can populate their new world. I have seen first hand the destruction of the lies that are propagated and met women who have come out of polygamy. Did you know that polygamy is still a very wide spread practice, not only in the US but also Canada and Mexico? In fact Romney's grand parents practiced polygamy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney This is Public Radio http://www.pri.org/stories/politics-society/polygamy-in-america1873.html they quote some 30,000 - 50,000..I have seen numbers as high at 500,000 living in polygamy. Many in Utah just turn a blind eye to it. Polygamy causes amazing damage to individuals, especially children. They believe that the "atonement" happened in the garden and are are extremely offended by the cross. Here is a site that refers to mormon "prophets" diagnosis of the garden and the cross: http://carm.org/mormonism-and-atonement-of-jesus They have a little ceremony they do in the temple that involves a fig leaf apron (which they wear when they are buried). This little ceremony is all about worshiping satan. Here is an article that is trying to refute this claim...http://www.veneermagazine.com/01-18/01/the_group/lucifer.html My question is why have the ceremony at all? And why do they wear this apron when they are buried? I live among these people, I talk with them about what they believe. I know many who have left the church and they suffer because of it. Leaving the church means being shunned by your neighbors and your family. Fundamentally mormonism promotes the "I am better than you attitude," people don't help each other out of care, but out of a desire to prove somehow they are better. Do they live moral lives? Yes for the most part, but just because something is good, does not mean it is not evil. The mormon church has a plan for this country and you better understand what that plan is before you jump blindly from the fire into the frying pan You can read that plan here: http://www.worldviewweekend.com/worldview-times/article.php?articleid=6317 I could go on, but I will spare you. All I am asking is that you think long and hard before voting someone into office that has the potential to be much worse for the country's eternal soul. ~Jill
