How to Practice Righteousness
Be Ye Holy, for I Am Holy – 1 Peter 1:16Many people believe you cannot live a holy life. Many people believe they will be rescued as the Bride of Jesus Christ with sin in their life. I struggled for a long time with how we as “sinners” could become a “spot free Bride”. I used to make excuses in my head like “Well we are all sinners anyway” so what’s the point. I figured I would repent of my sins and everything would be just fine.
I’m here to tell you that’s not how it works.
Today I received a letter from a pastor in India. Praise Jesus. He was intensely concerned about himself AND his congregation. How he stumbled across Tribulation-Now, I will never know. What I do know is if he had asked me these questions six months ago I wouldn’t have had an appropriate answer for him. I have spent hours in prayer, seeking the Lord in tears, asking Him to purify my heart and prepare me in holiness. Six months ago my only understanding of what holiness was came from the dictionary. Here’s what I found.
ho·ly [hoh-lee] adjective, ho·li·er, ho·li·est, noun, plural ho·lies.
1. specially recognized as or declared sacred by religious use or authority; consecrated: holy ground.
2. dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion: a holy man.
3. saintly; godly; pious; devout: a holy life.
4. having a spiritually pure quality: a holy love.
5. entitled to worship or veneration as or as if sacred: a holy relic.
