Hi Mike,

 

Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week ,which is Sunday,  and ascended to the Father the 'first time' on 'Firstfruits' that very same Sunday morning:

 

Mark 16:9

"Now when He rose early ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, He appeared first to Mary......" 

 

Jesus did not resurrect on the Sabbath - it was "early" on "the first day of the week" which is Sunday that he rose.

 

John 20:17

"Jesus said to her, do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I am ascending to My Father, and to My God and your God."

 

After Jesus ascended to the Father for the 'first time' on Firstfruits Sunday morning, He came back later that very same Sunday:

 

John 20;19

"Then, the SAME DAY at evening, being the first day of the week, .........Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be with you."

 

We all know that Jesus ascended for the 'second time' forty-days later.

 

 

It helps you to understand better if you read ALL the accounts of the same event in the Scriptures.
