I really enjoyed reading that article!
When I had the opportunity to visit Kiev, nearly a year after the collapse of the Soviet Union, there were different groups showing up there. There was an extremely antisemitic group, Память (Pamyat), spreading lies about the Jews in Ukraine, regarding the past and present. There was also the resurgence of the Protocols, in addition to the Khazar theories.People were allowed for the first time in many decades, to come freely to Kiev, but many were coming there to sew very bad seeds.
However, on the other hand, there were Messianic groups that showed up there, and cooperated, to greatly evangelize the Jews.Kiev, as like most of Ukraine, had been under the iron fist of Moscow, for so many years, watched and controlled by the cruel KGB.They had been under official atheism, so the Jews, there, had not been instructed, much, in the scriptures, if at all.So, when these Messianic groups showed up, especially those speaking to them in Russian, and even Ukrainian, the people were amazed. An elderly Jewish woman told me about when they had come to her door, and presented a gift of the scriptures to her.It was a new testament, with a dark green cover, and it was in Russian on one page, with the same, across, on the other side, in Hebrew. She explained that like her, most there could not read Hebrew, but the thought that they were holding scriptures in Hebrew was tremendous. They were now out from under the ever-watching KGB, and were able to freely read scriptures in Russian, in their own home. They had little, to no, idea about the old and new testament, or that many others in the world still rejected the new testament. Therefore, they were quickly, and easily, introduced to Jesus, by these Messianic evangelists, with much fruit!
