Hi All Doves,
After just having posted a lengthy post about how I am not one of those doves who receives any "sensory" extras like dreams and visions and such......well, maybe the Lord has a mighty sense of humor with me.
I awoke suddenly this morning 9/7 around 6am CST. All I heard the Lord say in my mind was "Earthquake", the number "10" and a feeling that it was impending and going to be here in the United States. I prayed and jumped on the internet to look for any news. Now it's nearly 1pm and still nothing. Of course I have been aware of all the conspiracy sites out there for years, mainly the non-christian ones, and know everything they have been saying about the New Madrid fault and also about the West Coast, about HAARP, the Illuminati, an so forth. So all that knowledge is still knocking around in my head. I don't look at those sites any longer - for me personally, the Lord instructed me to turn away and focus on Him alone.
I can testify that I am always quite suspicious of where these words and ideas come from in my head. It could be the Lord, it could me my own mind, it could be the flesh, or it could be the enemy. I do not put too much stock into visions and dreams because in these last days, there are so so so many wolves out there in sheeps' clothing, even I am deceived at times when I start to follow so-and-so's website. What does the Bible warm us of? That in the end times, that even the elect will be deceived. Please do not take this wrong - I am not despising your dreams and visions, just being careful.
One end-times website I was looking at had the moderator using extra-Biblical sources to make a lot of his points, and his methodology was to look and investigate heavily into new-age and other occult sites for their information (reasoning that there has got to be a lot of truth to it because Satan loves to imitate God), then go back to Scriptures to look for the back-up. He invented his own methodology or research style and blessed it! I was drawn into it for a few months because I must admit it was fascinating and esoteric. But I found myself with a spirit of fear I could not shake, and of course, I was thinking something was wrong with me and my faith! Then I tested the spirit and my confirmation from the Lord was simply this: to go back to the Word. That simple! When I asked to be removed from the mailing list and for the removal of some of my postings which were private and never meant to be publicly posted, the true colors of this person came out with some very terse and non-loving responses (which shocked me because I did not rebuke him, try to correct him, said nothing bad, an even blessed him). It was the Lord's confirmation I needed.
I know that our mind and emotions as humans are quite fickle. We are instructed not to walk to sight but by faith. I have had dreams in the past that I felt sure they were from the Lord, and when following up on what I had dreamed, even to the point of making a fool of my self, I found out it wasn't the Lord, it was another source. Another thing I am suspicious of is asking the Lord to give signs to you. This verse always comes to mind:
King James Version (KJV)
2He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
What about people who practice what I might interpret as a form of divination? For example, they believe that when they open up a Bible to any random page, that the Lord has caused that page to open for the purpose or exact sign they are seeking, and of course it is to prove a point they are trying to make. Or asking the Lord a specific question you seek an answer to, and taking your Strong's Concordance and rolling dice and then taking those numbers and correlating them with the number in the Strong's - again to make one's point. Is this not divination? Some might argue that there are so many examples in the Bible of "casting lots" - I found 25 right away looking at BibleGateway.com. But to me it seems like you are looking for a magic sign or a divination. I welcome thoughts on this...I may be wrong.
So what am I saying? Have I just condemned myself, thinking the Lord gave me a "sign" - Earthquake, #10 on the richter scale, and just a vague feeling it was prophetic and for the US? Maybe so. All I know is that I cannot trust my emotions, they can be deceptive and fickle. I also have knowledge of the occult and how the occult works, having been attacked by demons both physically while awake, mentally, and while asleep (my dreams) for 24 years and also being a born-again believer while this happened (this stopped recently, and I will share in another post about this). But the Word of God is absolutely trustworthy and complete. I would be more apt to believe the Lord had something specific to say to me if an angel were to come to my door and knock to deliver a message. Dear Doves, I am not putting down your dreams and visions because I take encouragement in what you write! I'm just noting to have caution because the enemy is very skilled, has much knowledge, has been around a long time, and the entities who have been around you your whole life (assigned to you, especially if you are a spirit-filled believer) know just how and where to attack in order to deceive and push your buttons. And it can be very subtle. They want you more than anyone else - the non-believers they already have going to Hell. The luke warm pew warmers they are not too concerned about. Of course, they don't get very far at all with you if you have appropriated your position in Christ and have on your full armor.
1 John 4
1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. But beyond this, I believe there are still those people who will confess that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh, and seem like they know what they are talking about, but will lead you away in error or in heresy. Again, it will be very subtle - like 99% truth and 1% lie or heresy. And there are many, many of them out there. Pray always, every morning for discernment and trust what the Spirit confirms in your heart and mind. I was pulled into fear-mongering and that is how I knew it was not of the Lord - because I had no peace, just dread.
I welcome any thoughts or responses! I love you all!
P.S. Just for kicks, here's something I saw driving home from a business trip on August 28th....when I was almost home (I pray when I'm driving a lot) I saw one car pull up next to me and move just ahead, and the license plate had the numbers "321" on it (I used to live near Cape Canaveral) and 321 was made the area code because of the NASA's presence in that county...and I guess, meaning 'countdown'). Then the next car that pulled up behind that car had the word" "ARK" on it. "321 ARK" Coincidence? I don't know. Does it matter? I just smiled. Never happened to me before. What do ya all think of that? Is the Lord saying the door to the ark is about to close? Let me know! :)
