Shall we erect a Shinto shrine near the Arizona at Pearl Harbor?
Hardly. If you go to Pearl Harbor, visit the memorial.
The offical Japanese religion when Pearl Harbor was attacked was emperor worship...Shinto.
The Japanese people are our friends and allies today. But they have no desire to see a Shinto shrine erected near that place. Instead, there you might see, as I did, Japanese people crying in shame and horror at what their nation did when they see the pictures of what actually took place there 70 years ago.
Americas rebuilt Japan after the war and helped it to become one of the world's most prosperous nations. How many "Moderate" Muslims come to ground zero to cry in shame and horror at what elements of their "religion" did on September 11th? How much money have they donated to help rebuild the property those "elements" destroyed? Little, if any I suspect.
But plenty for the construction of a mosque nearby...
