Rebelling against GOD and the King
By Lewis Brackett
So, were my ancestors rebelling against GOD by
denouncing King George and his ministers way back in 1775 ? ((In a lot more
descriptive and colorful language BTW
)) After all, George was ""anointed by GOD"" according to the Bible and the
elders in the church (of England)...... Now Kings have had a really cozy
relationship with the establishment church for centuries.........
if you said
anything against the King, the "church" would and did burn you at the stake for
heresy............
Every man was required to take an oath before GOD
recognizing the English King as God's regent on earth, sovereign ruler of the
empire, master of every man.........
When my ancestors took up arms
against the King, many thought and said they were rebelling against GOD........
these accusers were Tories, loyalists, kings men--who took their oath before GOD
seriously............
fast fwd 235 years
, the
same Bible verses are quoted as back then regarding our
rulers.........
Thankfully so far we aren't killed for our opposition to
the ruler by the "church" (that is soon coming) but in our Republican age I
believe our rulers are allowed, tolerated by GOD in his permissive will rather
than anointed by GOD as in the ancient Bible days........so I question if we are
really supposed to revere republican elected rulers in the same way as the
ancient anointed by GOD kings....... We may be in the republican "dispensation"

There
has always been in my mind an uncomfortable realization that the ancient people
of the "tower of Babel" era also Proudly said:
"We The People"
