Red Carpet (wikipedia.org)
The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:
"Now my beloved, step down from your chariot, and let not your foot, my lord, touch the Earth. Servants, let there be spread before the house he never expected to see, where Justice leads him in, a crimson path."
Agamemnon, knowing that only gods walk on such luxury, responds with trepidation:
"I am a mortal, a man; I cannot trample upon these tinted splendors without fear thrown in my path."
The play Agamemnon (Ἀγαμέμνων, Agamemnōn) details the homecoming of Agamemnon, King of Argos, from the Trojan War. Waiting at home for him is his wife, Clytemnestra, who has been planning his murder, ....
.... in this play a group of the elders of Argos, are left bewildered and fearful, until they hear the death screams of Agamemnon, and frantically debate on a course of action.
A platform is then rolled out displaying the butchered corpses of Agamemnon and Cassandra, along with Clytemnestra brandishing the bloodied axe, and defiantly explaining her action. Agamemnon is murdered in much the same way an animal is killed for sacrifice: with three blows, the last strike accompanied by a prayer to a god.
Upon seeing this picture this morning, I couldn't help but knowing that it was pregnant with symbolism. I am not a student of body language, but over the years many things become extremely obvious. Those who have greater training and are led by the Holy Spirit may find meaning of greater depth.
We have five national ("or pseudo-national") leaders, scripturaly known as "horns," walking the blood red carpet. They are led by half a pace, by a known usurper. Only two have the look of assurance (Obama, King Abdallah), confidence in their endeavor. Both of whom have received scores of writing proclaiming them being the prophesied "antichrist." Two have firmly planted their left foot forward (Obama, Abdulla), while one slowly lags behind (Abbas). The other two are stepping with the right.
Mubarak is the only one who appears casual and with a smile. Reportedly he has a terminal illness and has brought his son, his expected replacement, along for the trip. He wears an apparent black tie, a symbol of mourning. He appears comfortable, slightly separated from the group, probably more of an observer than active participant.
On the other hand, Benjamin Netanyahu looks very uncomfortable and out of place. His head is bowed, submissive and tilted away from the usurper. There are places he would rather be. His tie reflects his mood, "gray".
The determined, smirking usurper stands tall as he force marches his captive ensemble. His ego requires that he is the center of focus and out front. He wears his recurrent blue tie. And just maybe, the only American flag in the picture might be the barely discernible lapel pin on his left. This is supposed to be "his moment." Can you just hear, "Peace and Safety," brought to us by a "nobel Winner."
Mohamed Abbas also looks as if there are places he would rather be. He is uncomfortable and needs the security of" holding hands" with the only one he trusts. He wears the blue tie of his "patron saint," as he tries to keep in step with his leader.
King Abdallah of Jordan is the only one in the picture who exhibits real confidence and the appearance of being comfortable. He is the only one pictured who is an actual direct descendent of royalty. Maybe that is why his "pinky finger" remains extended when relaxed. He wears a dark red tie, very much the appearance of unoxygenated blood. The carpet is bright red as seen with fresh blood that still maintains its life. Dark red is a badge of blood spilled in times past. It is my impression that he is the actual leader of this group. He is the mind that will pull the strings of the puppets in the middle. President Mubarak is simply along for the ride.
