"ALASKA EARTHQUAKE"
Dear Barb,

I received an email notice from the USGS about the Alaska quake, the same day that the New Zealand quake hit.  The media probably didn’t think it was significant for the following reasons:

1) Some places continually shake more than others, Alaska is one of them.

2) The Alaska quake, although large at 6M, was not as large as New Zealand’s 7.2M.

3) The Alaska quake was epicentered in an area that is remote and relatively unpopulated.  It probably just shook a few polar bears around.  Whereas, the New Zealand quake was epicentered in a densely populated area.  It is truly a miracle that there was no loss of life with this size of a quake hitting a densely populated area.  Many of us feared it might end up being another Haiti, where there was a huge loss of life.  Thanks be to God that not a single person even died of a heart attack!....let alone died from being crushed to death in a building.

Here’s a website that regularly posts major quakes:

I hope this helps.

Maranatha!
