These three things are the greatest gifts...faith...hope...love. Looking for passages in the scriptures where we find these three words listed together, I found the following.
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.Colossians 1:5
the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel
1 Thessalonians 1:3
We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Faith isn't something that I can manufacture through positive thinking. Hope isn't something I can produce like a childish wish. Love isn't sentimental fondness.
I don't know when the Jesus will come for His bride. But, I have faith in Him and that He is coming. I have hope that He is coming soon. I love the Lord Jesus who is the Son of God and my Redeemer and Savior.
Our faith, hope and love doesn't spring from anything we can can conjure up. They are God's gifts. He is the giver of all good gifts. May He pour out His Spirit and give us the gifts that we need. Without faith I couldn't endure. Without hope, I wouldn't want to live. Without love there is no purpose in living.
The day is coming soon when the vessels of these gifts will be taken away. What a terrible world it will be. Until we are taken, we need to share our faith, hope and love. It is not for us to keep and hoard up. Whether we agree or not on the smaller things, like whether ot not Jesus will come in the Spring or the Fall, we need to open to God so that we can be filled up with the larger things...faith...hope...love. These things we can share... and ought to share...and must share. Amen.
