1 Cor 10:31 (22 Sep 2010)
"The Bible tells us to avoid certain people  {Corey Anne, re: your friend}"

This, of course, is for anyone who wants to see what the Bible has to say about how we should stay away from certain people.  Corey Anne, I stuck your name in the subject heading, just because we were discussing that one friend you have at church.    Reva

Surprisingly, instead of going around "being nice to EVERYBODY" all the time ~  the Bible teaches that Christians ARE to avoid certain people (also certain “places” and “things” ~ however, in this list I’ve included on the certain people we are to avoid….)     And there are many more listings in Proverbs, so this list is not exhaustive, but I think it will surely give us a good idea!

I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people.   Don’t even eat with such people.   1 Cor 5:11  NLT

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore associate not with him who talks too freely.  Prov 20:19 Amp

Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people,or you will learn to be like them
and endanger your soul.   Prov 22:24-25 NLT

Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them  Prov 24:1 NKJV

I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard concerning those who create dissensions and difficulties and cause divisions, in opposition to the doctrine (the teaching) which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from them, to] avoid them.

18For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites and base desires, and by ingratiating and flattering speech, they beguile the hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people].

Romans 16:17-18 Amp

This is the same Scripture from the CEV translation:

My friends, I beg you to watch out for anyone who causes trouble and divides the church by refusing to do what all of you were taught. Stay away from them! 18They want to serve themselves and not Christ the Lord. Their flattery and fancy talk fool people who don't know any better.

6My dear friends, in the name of [a] the Lord Jesus, I beg you not to have anything to do with any of your people who loaf around and refuse to obey the instructions we gave you. 7You surely know that you should follow our example. We didn't waste our time loafing, 8and we didn't accept food from anyone without paying for it. We didn't want to be a burden to any of you, so night and day we worked as hard as we could. 9We had the right not to work, but we wanted to set an example for you. 10We also gave you the rule that if you don't work, you don't eat. 11Now we learn that some of you just loaf around and won't do any work, except the work of a busybody. 12So, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, we ask and beg these people to settle down and start working for a living. 13Dear friends, you must never become tired of doing right.

14Be on your guard against any followers who refuse to obey what we have written in this letter. Put them to shame by not having anything to do with them. 15Don't consider them your enemies, but speak kindly to them as you would to any other follower.   2 Thess 3:6-15  CEV

If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them.   Titus 3:10   NLT

They will also be ungrateful, godless, 3heartless, and hateful. Their words will be cruel, and they will have no self-control or pity. These people will hate everything that is good. 4They will be sneaky, reckless, and puffed up with pride. Instead of loving God, they will love pleasure. 5Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won't be real. Don't have anything to do with such people.   2 Tim 3    CEV

…guard what God has placed in your care!  Don't pay any attention to that godless and stupid talk that sounds smart but really isn't. 21Some people have even lost their faith by believing this talk.   1 Tim 6:20-21  CEV

Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." (1 Cor 15:33)

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Rom 12:2)

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.  2 John 1:10-11
