Lyrics of the popular hymn "Abide With Me" were written by Pastor Henry F. Lyte in 1847 as he was dying of tuberculosis;  he went home to Heaven three weeks later.  
 
The tune,  "Eventide",  was written by William H. Monk in 1861,  at a time which his wife described as "a time of great sorrow."
 
This lovely song reminds us that our citizenship is in Heaven (Philippians 3:20).
