Trebor, your claim that the napkin was a tallit needs to be proven, as we
all so want it to be true.
Where is the evidence from Jewish sources?
I checked the Greek concordance which says that the word used for napkin
has no relation to a Tallit.
"It could be very well be a Tallit but I am not going to question the
original Greek.
I have a Greek Study Bible by Spiros Zodhiates of AMG International and his
notes for the Greek word used "SOUDARION" means napkin, hankerchief, towel for
wiping perspiration from face or binding the face of a corpse. This makes sense
to me since I am fluent in Spanish. The Spanish verb Sudar which means to
sweat.
I thought it might have been possible that the Greeks of this time did not
have a word for "tallit" but that is not the case.
I did a little searching on tallit and there appears to have a Greek word
that does not appear in the Bible, "SKHNOPOIOS".
The Greek word fro TENTMAKER appears in Acts 18:3 and it seems to be a
related to SKHNOPOIOS.
I am not Greek translator but I am was a student of Hal Lindsey and
listened to Spiros Zodhiates almost daily on the radio. They both have
excellent backgrounds in Biblical Greek.
