The Earth's axis has not tilted of late. Such an abrupt dramatic shift would cause major geologic disruptions. The quick and easy way to verify that the earth's axis has not changed is to go out and look at the northern sky at night. Polaris remains in the same position in the sky as always. Such a large shift in the axis would also mean the Polaris is no longer the "North Star".
