Not only is the MOON a type of the church but the SUN is a type of the SON. The moon is a DEAD planet. (we are dead in Christ) The moon FOLLOWS the SUN (SON) in it's orbit. We are to follow the SON!
God is a consuming FIRE. The sun is a huge fire ball.
 
When mankind finally landed on the moon - it was a picture of this sin-cursed world STEPPING on the CHURCH or colluding with her - thus you see all the lukewarm churches out there who preach the "touchy-feely" prosperity gospel and they have these huge, flamboyant buildings - their ministers are wearing thousand-dollar suits, living in million-dollar mansions (they aren't in a hurry to get a mansion on high - they already have one here!), and huge diamond rings on both hands that they continuously flash before their TV audiences --- yet you never hear their preachers touch on sin, the devil, hell, repentance, judgment to come and the fallen condition of mankind. People leave the services feeling GOOD about THEMSELVES! That is the lukewarm Laodician Church of TODAY! They think they are "rich", but Jesus says that they are poor, blind, and naked.
