"TO Cherise - "Bells and being woke up at night""

Hi, Doves, and dear Cherise!

Per Cherise’s posting on September 14th about hearing bells ringing:

I did some Yahooing on the subject of the spiritual significance of ringing bells, and found two very interesting articles that may shed some light on why she may have heard bells.  Neither site do I agree with on most things, but found some VERY interesting statements in both articles.  The one that makes the most sense is the final bulleted item on the page (with RED letters).

FROM “THE BELLS NOW RINGING” ARTICLE (http://www.swedenborg.org/odb/sermon_detail.cfm?sermonID=2602):

·        So it is clear that the sound, or "voice," of bells means divine truth that is spiritual; for Aaron's garments--especially his robe, which had bells all around its hem--represented the Lord's spiritual kingdom or heaven.

·        They announce the time . . . and tell us our time is up.

·        Bells of gold signify all things of doctrine and worship that come from good, which come to those who are of the church. The sounds or "voices" of the bells as musical instruments represent divine spiritual truths.

·        In our scripture from Zechariah, the bells of the horses stand for the understanding of the spiritual things of the Bible, which are holy.

FROM ORTHODOX PHOTOS WEBSITE (http://www.orthodoxphotos.com/readings/divine/bells.shtml):

·       Church bell ringing is to summon the faithful to the divine services.

·       Church bell ringing is to express the triumphal joy of the Church and Her divine services.

·       Is it not a mouth that speaks when the bell tells us of each passing hour, and reminds us of the passage of time and of eternity when there should be time no longer (Rev. 10:6).

·       Announcing the glory of the name of Christ, day and night, from the heights of a church of God, the sound of bells reminds us of the words of the Lord, the Pantocrator, spoken through the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah, "I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night" (Is. 62:6). It is not by chance that pagans, when they heard the sound of bells, often said, "that is the voice of the Christian God."

·       A moving peal of bells acts upon our inner feelings and awakens our souls from spiritual slumber.

LY all in Him!

Peggy
