DAMASCUS, (SANA), TV monitoring- European Union's High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana Friday underlined that Syria plays an important role in the region, saying "peace process should move towards the achievement of peace."

"Syria has an important role in Iraq, particularly in regards to Iraqi refugees… Syria plays a constructive role in this regard and it has important regional responsibilities," Solana told al-Jazeera TV channel in an interview.

He underlined the importance of restoring the occupied Syrian Golan to Syria; considering that peace will be achieved in the framework of the Arab peace initiative.
