"RE: Sonchild & Turkey"

About one year ago, I didn't know how Turkey could possibly switch sides (Pro-Western to Pro-Iranian).  I thought it might have something to do with both Iran and Turkey having a common enemy, Kurdish Rebels, and the fact that the EU is dragging their feet on allowing Turkey to become a member state.  However in the last 6 months, Turkey has taken some serious steps towards partnering with Iran.  In the last two months, both Turkey and Iran have agreed to further cooperation in the economic developement of their common border area and there is talks about creating a gas/oil pipeline through Turkey to the Mediterranean. I believe that the the 2nd Lebanon War was when the door opened for Turkey to switch sides as Iranian volunteers traveled through Turkey to get to Lebanon to help Hizbollah. Attacks against christians have rapidly increased in Turkey.

Turkey was the only Islamic country to formally recognize Israel and the two countries have had a mutual trade pact for some time, however two recent incidents have put a strain on that relationship.  The ADL claiming that the Armenian Massacre was a genocide and just a few days ago, Maccabi Tel Aviv (a soccer team) and their fans were singing anti-islamic and anti-Muhammed songs on their flight to a match in Ankara.  There was a turkish reporter on the plane.  Turkey is also upset that American made weapons have found there way to the kurdish rebels in eastern Turkey (they want their own kurdistan).  They are currenlty investigating to see if the US (and NATO partner) was actively involved or simply negligent.
