Russia has planted its flag at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean, exactly on the spot recognized as the North Pole. Will they walk away with all the toys? In this move, Russia has staked its claim to billions of dollars worth of oil and gas reserves in the Arctic Ocean. It was a record-breaking dive as two mini submarines reached the seabed more than two and a half miles below the surface, claiming that the North Pole is directly connected to its continental shelf. Inside the first submarine were two members of the Russian Parliament _ leading the expedition to claim the largely uncharted domain on behalf of Russia. It has been estimated that the Russian claim would add nearly half a million square miles of territory to their country, even though it is all underwater.  Just click one of the links above to enjoy the program.
