Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 in the evening my wife and I did visit a little concert at the school where our children go:
A group of Polish people were on a trip in Germany and presented Jewish songs. They do support old Holocaust survivors in Poland and the Ukraine.
It was amazing, because just this evening they were at our place and I did expect they would emphasize the coincidence of the date, because it was Rosh Hashanah – Yom Teruah in Israel...
Well, many songs were loud and joyful. One song was “Next Year in Jerusalem”.
And there it was: the leader of the group played also the Shofar melody and more incidentally he mentioned, yesterday was New Year’s day in the Hebrew calendar... (However which was not accurate because the New moon was not sighted yesterday!).
So, I was a little disappointed that they were not saying more about “Yom Teruah – Rosh Hashanah”....and “our Hope”...
Then they showed us photos from those old families they do visit in Poland and Ukraine... Jewish families, survivors of the Holocaust. They all were very thankful and happy when they were visited by the group and when they did help them... Those survivors are very old people... most in the eighties...!
I was reminded to the Words in Matthew 24: “...This generation shall not pass away...!”
Then they played some more songs, very happy and spirited...
Finally we did acclaim – a great applause... However, I myself still was a little “disappointed”...
What a coincidence of time: In Israel the new moon sighted, and here in Germany almost same time, shofar sounds and Jewish music, however, seemingly no one did “catch” it...
After the applause they presented the bonus song – which is a prayer, he said and added: “Let us pray our last song with our whole heart and soul !”
I was surprised and shocked when I heard the song title:
“The Messiah comes this year!”
Amen, so be it!
Help us Lord by your amazing Grace
