"Israel - Syria - CNN"
Hi John & All:
In regards to the Israeli fly-over of Syrian airspace recently, there has been a lot of speculation as to its purpose. One of the so-called theories proposes it was done as part of a military strike on a nuclear muntions depot, which has been dubbed to have come from Korea. The problem with this speculation is that both sides have been rather tight-lipped on the issue. Now for Syria this would be easy to understand, since they are already in a hot enough kettle of fish in the eyes of the world community, which regards them as no less than a terrorist state. But from the Israeli standpoint, I can see no logical purpose for them to hide what would obviously be a necessary course of action, if true. In fact, even given that unlikely possibility being put forth by the media, there is zero world protest ... an amazing curiosity in this age of anti-semitism.
I would be more inclined to believe this military action was a preparation for the next Middle East war, whenever and however big it might be. Syria has obviously been caught red-faced, with their pants down, and Israel (if you'll pardon the analogy), is unwilling to declare what they have seen.
On another track, while watching this story a couple of times on CNN today, I must admit to being perturbed by CNN's version of a Middle East map. While they had Syrian borders correctly outlined, the borders for State of Israel were shown as excluding the West Bank (i.e. Judea and Samaria).
See ya in the air,
Eric
