"Star Trek & Atlantis"

…one more note…I was looking for something significant that happened in the past in regard to Atlantis.  Now I have to say, I watched the original Star Trek and still like to watch Kirk and the crew (never got into the new Star Trek), but I think there is a theme of “man boldly going where no man has before” in other words man’s great achievements.  Like space is just another frontier, like discovering America, etc.

LOS ANGELES — Cue the iconic theme music: Forty years ago, on September 8, 1966, "Star Trek" lifted off into TV and cultural history

Also 40 years ago:

Luna 9, launched by the USSR on February 3, 1966, performed the first "soft landing" on the moon; and Luna 10 became the first spacecraft to orbit the moon on April 3, 1966.  While unmanned Soviet probes did reach the moon before any U.S. craft, American Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the lunar surface, after landing on July 20, 1969.
