Tony,
Here are my thoughts on the wedding in Cana. They are similar to what you said in your article.
In John 2, Jesus appears at the wedding in Cana of Galilee. I believe this is a prophetic parable for the end of the Old Covenant and the beginning of the New Covenant. It is also a prophetic picture for the wedding banquet that will soon take place when Jesus returns for his obedient saints who are with out spot or blemish.
This banquet appears to happen on the seventh day, the beginning of the 7th millenium, the darkness of tribulation. It is hard to see the wedding in Cana taking place on the seventh day until you take a closer look at the scriptures in John 1.
The first day is in John 1:15-28 is when John the baptist proclaims,
"I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,'
The second day is in John 1:29,
Joh 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
The third day is in John 1:35,
Joh 1:35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples,
Joh 1:36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
The fourth day is in John 1:43,
Joh 1:43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me."
After the 4th day in John 1:43, there is an unexplained absence of Jesus for a couple of days until "on the third day" of his absence Jesus suddenly appears at the wedding banquet in Cana (John 2:1). The first four days in John 1, when added to "on the third day" when Jesus appeared at the wedding banquet is the "seventh day".
Joh 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
Joh 2:2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.
Jesus was last seen at 4,000 years from the time of Adam when he was crucified and resurrected (the 4th day). Jesus has been absent from the world for almost 2,000 years now (2 days) until sometime "on the third day" when he will suddenly appear. The Bridegroom will suddenly appear on the third day from his resurrection in a time of spiritual darkness (the tribulation) for his faithful bride (obedient disciples) and take them to the wedding banquet (in the 7th day, during the 7th millenium). So the 7th day from Adam is the same as "on the third day" from the ressurection of Christ.
On the third day of Jesus absence from his resurection he will return for us so we may live before him (Hosea 6:1-2).
Hos 6:1 "Come, let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
Hos 6:2 After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.
Joh 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." The time for the end of the old wine (the Old Covenant) was at hand.
Joh 2:4 And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come."
Jesus had come to fufill and put an end to the Old Covenant (the old and bitter wine). But the hour had not yet come when Jesus blood would be shed as sin offering for mankind, the pouring out of the new wine (New Covenant) and the end of the old wine (Old Covenant).
Joh 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Joh 2:6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 6 is the number for man and we are vessels of the Lord, the work of the potters hands.
Joh 2:7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. The obedient disciples who were invited to the wedding banquet filled the 6 empty vessels, sinners with the water of the word of God (Ephesians 5:26).
Joh 2:8 And he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it.
Joh 2:9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom
Joh 2:10 and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now."
The master of the banquet said "But you have kept the good wine until now," which meant that the old wine, the Old Covenant had come to an end and the best wine, the New Covenant had been kept until now. Jesus purpose for his first coming was to fufill the Old Covenant so it could be done away with so that mankind may be declared righteous before God by the New Covenant, the new wine.
The miracle of water turned into new wine at the wedding banquet is a picture of obedient disciples who fill people who hunger and thirst for righteousness (6 empty stone vessels) with the water of the Word of God. Then Jesus miraculously changes his Word that has filled these thirsty vessels into spiritual fruit, new wine (the righteous fruit of the Holy Spirit manifested in his church, John 15:5).
Joh 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me (the water of the Word) and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Jesus turns the water of the Word in his saints (his obedient vessels) into spiritual fruit, the new wine of the new covenant, the righteousness of Christ fufilled through his obedient church.
Mat 26:27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you,
Mat 26:28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Mat 26:29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."
Notice in John 2:13-21, a few days after the wedding banquet, Jesus goes to Jerusalem to cleanse the temple. The feast of trumpets has many prophetic aspects to it. One is the reward of the wedding banquet to those disciples who are obedient (John 2:2) while at the same time the Lord judges his lukewarm church, cleanses his temple of the money changers (John 2 14-17). This is a similar picture that Jesus reveals in the parable of the 10 virgins. The five wise virgins are attending the wedding banquet with Jesus while the five foolish were told to repent and buy oil, follow the Holy Spirit so their lamps (the light of Jesus in them) would shine brightly in the darkness (the tribulation). The Lord is revealing in John 2 that the wedding banquet will be followed by the cleansing of his temple, the disobedient church.
Joh 2:13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Joh 2:14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.
Joh 2:15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.
Joh 2:16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade."
Joh 2:17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."
Joh 2:18 So the Jews said to him, "What sign do you show us for doing these things?"
Joh 2:19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Joh 2:20 The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?"
Joh 2:21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
It is important to be ready for the Bridegrooms return when Jesus returns in the darkness for his faithful bride. But looking at the the spiritual light and darkness in the world today I would have to say that Jesus return is getting closer but it is not quite time for his return.
Jesus said in John 9:4, We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
Now it is evident in the parable of the 10 virgins, the jewish wedding and in several other scriptures that Jesus will return for his bride during a time of spiritual darkness. It will be a time when there will be intense persecution worldwide for christians who try to share the light of christ. The dark and evil times that will be upon the world in the tribulation will not allow christians to share their faith without persecution following.
Today in America I can easily share Jesus without any fear of being thrown in jail. It is still day time when we are permitted work and share the gospel of Christ freely. But I do believe the darkness of persecution for sharing the light of Jesus is not far off. So when looking for the return of our Bridegroom instead of trying to predict dates that come and go, look at the darkness that is around us. When the thick evil of persecution and darkness is upon the christian world you will know that the Bridegrooms return is at hand.
Remember when the 10 virgins fell asleep because the Bridegroom was a long time in coming. It was most likely already dark when they fell asleep because they needed their lamps to light the way. But even though the foolish virgins knew the Bridegroom was coming soon they were not allowed to enter the wedding banquet with Jesus. Even though you may know the approximate time of Jesus return is at hand you will not be allowed to enter the wedding banquet unless your vessel is filled with oil, walking obediently to the Holy Spirits direction for your life. Remember the disciples who atteneded the wedding banquet with Jesus. They obeyed him when they were told to fill the 6 empty vessels with water. Are you filling those people Jesus puts in your life with the water of the word? Are you a wall, a fortress of protection against the enemy? Are you praying for the spiritual children God has put in your life who faint from hunger because they are not seeking "the bread of life" (Jesus) as the watches of the night begin (the darkness of the tribulation)?
Lam 2:13 What can I say for you, to what compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What can I liken to you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your ruin is vast as the sea; who can heal you?
Lam 2:14 Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions; they have not exposed your iniquity to restore your fortunes, but have seen for you oracles that are false and misleading.
Lam 2:15 All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem; "Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?"
Lam 2:16 All your enemies rail against you; they hiss, they gnash their teeth, they cry: "We have swallowed her! Ah, this is the day we longed for; now we have it; we see it!"
Lam 2:17 The LORD has done what he purposed; he has carried out his word, which he commanded long ago; he has thrown down without pity; he has made the enemy rejoice over you and exalted the might of your foes.
Lam 2:18 Their heart cried to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!
Lam 2:19 "Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the night watches! Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord! Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street."
Are you being obedient to Jesus will for your life yesterday, today and tommorw? Or are you instead listening to the false prophets speaking decptive lies from their own imaginations?
