Frank,

The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church!  You are right, this is not a very popularly taught subject at churches these days.  In fact I would say its almost a "taboo subject" matter in churches.  (The importance of tithing, on the other hand, is the SINGLE most important and frequently taught sermon subject these days, which says a mouthful about the spiritual condition of the American church.)
Obviously, the Fox News journalists loved this life more than Christ.  If they were true Christians, they missed a tremendous opportunity to witness to the truth of Christ, which God could have used to bring many Muslims to Christ.  If God had wanted them to die a martyr's death for Him, the Holy Spirit would have given them such wisdom and tremendous peace and calm to go through with this.....like Stephen when he was martyred for Christ.  The martyr's crown is the highest reward a Christian can receive in heaven.  But we are not to deliberately do anything to bring on our own martyrdom.  But if God chooses us, to lay down our lives (or a loved one's life) for Him, we are to rejoice, because this reward carries with it an eternal glory.  The minute we are absent from these earthly bodies, we are standing in God's loving presence, where God says "Well done, thy good and faithful servant....enter into your reward."

However, most likely, they were probably not real Christians.  As such, any silly professions made to win their freedom may have been the smart thing to do under these circumstances.   Because,.... if they aren't Christians, if they had been killed, they would have gone to Hell.  So now they have confessed faith in Islam......they are still going to Hell.  They haven't changed their eternal destinies.  If a nonbeliever in Christ confesses faith in  Islam or Budha or Snake Worshipping.....they have not changed their eternal destiny.  ONLY when they find and confess faith in Christ, do the stakes go up, and their eternal destiny changes.   In this case, at least they are still alive, and still have a chance to find true faith in Christ.  Clearly, they still need prayer.

Also, keep in mind, that these terrorists most likely made threats to the journalists' family and friends, and told them we will hunt you down and harm your family, if they reneg their "faith" in Islam, once they are free....and even call terrorists wonderful beautiful people!  So, not being Christians anyway, they are too afraid to not go along with the program.

Clearly, they still need prayer.

PS: Peter denied Christ 3 times, which resulted in terrible torment.  Judas was so tormented after he did it, that he killed himself.  But Peter was later restored to Christ before Christ's Ascension to heaven.....and then later in his life, Peter did have a chance to die for Christ, and took it.

PPS: Keep in mind that these journalists who go right into the battlefield, are extremely well paid......hazard pay....well into the 7 figures.  That is why they take the risk......for money.  I feel more sorry for people who are lowly paid humanitarians or Christian missionaries trying to help these people and end up being kidnapped and beheaded.  I don't have much, or at least not the same sympathy for those who willing volunteer to go into troubled areas in order to make huge amounts of money.   They willingly risk their lives for money.  They won't risk it for Christ......but they will risk it for Money.  This says a lot about a person and their values.

More evidence that they were not bible believing Christians:  They claimed that they went into Gaza to hear the Muslim Terrorist's side of the story.  Well they got it!  They found out FIRST HAND what these Muslim Terrorists are all about!  If being kidnapped, tortured and threatened with death unless they convert, really caused these Fox News Journalists to see Islam as a beautiful and peaceful religion that they want to embrace.....they need their heads examined.  Common sense dictates otherwise.  (Likewise, anyone who says that all religions are alike seriously need their heads examined too!)  But as I said before, they were no doubt forced to make these idiotic professions.  Hopefully, they will seek Christ now with all their hearts after going through this ordeal.  I pray that they find Christ.

Maranatha!
Deborah
