"Re: Is Katrina God’s Judgment, Part 2 - Flawed Logic"

Jim,

No lengthy arguments, but I want to point out some things that I think you would want to know about:

But back to whether or not Katrina should be blamed on God, Satan, or neither.  One thing convincing to many is the timing of Katrina vis-a-vis the Gaza pull out, which is remarkable.  That is a strong argument in favor of judgment.  Mere coincidence seems unlikely; however, we have seen many such coincidences.

There is another choice, rather than judgment, Genesis speaks of blessings and cursings, specifically calling for a curse on those who go against Israel.  So the blame really falls on the people who displeased God and brought the promised curse on the nation and city. See my article on this for more details: http://www.escapeallthesethings.com/katrina-new-orleans-hurricane.htm

Also, if we conclude a direct cause-and-effect relationship between Gaza and Katrina, we are establishing a principle which should also be applied universally to other hurricanes and natural disasters, and I do not see how that can be done.  For example, below are the Top Ten Worst Hurricanes in the U.S. since the year 1900.  All but one came before the nation of Israel was even born in 1948!

It's flawed logic to say that if it's true that a curse caused this hurricane then it must also be the cause of all hurricanes or its not true.  The Gaza-Katrina connection merely explains why THIS hurricane formed when it did, developed so rapidly just in time to hit where it did, a nation whose policies (Oslo) forced Israel to divide her land and at one of her citie that was about to have a homosexual celebration.  It does not purport to or need to explain why ALL hurricanes form.  Most hurricanes form naturally and slowly as scientists will tell you.  Some few are the hand of God as the Bible will tell you (deluge, "rain not in due season").  Like you said, it's hard to prove which is the cause everytime, but we have Biblical precedent that this happens and Katrina is one of the most obvious potential examples yet of the latter case that I've seen in years of being aware of this principal.

But the point of all of this as my article says is to wake up and realize how frail our existences are and how much we need to have our prayer closet relationship with God so we can not just be saved in heaven but saved now from these disasters by hearing God's leading to move from such places if need be.  I'd be praying seriously about moving from Florida (and all the Gulf states) if I were still there considering these new fangled weather patterns!

Kind Regards,

Tim McHyde
