Read Revelation 18 (see: http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/Rev/Rev018.html#top ) and substitute in the word “New Orleans” for “Babylon”. It reads like the newspaper for the past few days.By the way “Orleans” means “City or Metropolis” in French. In this passage Babylon is referred to as “the strong city”, “the great city”, etc.
Babylon means “confusion” or “mixture” -- Ever seen a Mardi Gras celebration? Also Cajun is the language of New Orleans; a “mixture” of English, French, and other languages. Babylon was known for it’s pagan culture, how much more a pagan city is there in America than New Orleans? (perhaps Las Vegas…)
Especially interesting is that New Orleans is the 4th largest port in the world and THE LARGEST PORT in the USA with all kinds of goods flowing up and down the Mississippi river and we all know about the oil imports coming in through New Orleans (see verses 11-19). Also, the city is now on fire (see verse 8, 18) and also interesting, is that New Orleans is the Jazz capital of the world – look at verse 22.
Plagues and pestilences and famine are in the city (see v. 8)
Is Revelation chapter 18 a prophecy of the destruction of New Orleans? If it is, and if Revelation is written in chronological order, then Chapter 19 talks about the Marriage supper of the Lamb and of the Second Coming of Christ.
