I think God's timing is excellent.  We all know what Joseph said to his brothers when he was reunited with them in Egypt:

"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. (Gen 50:20)"

Israel's expansion has always been by the means of war. Whether it was in Joshua's day or in ours.  We know that there is a show down coming called the Gog and Magog war (Ezek 38).  Just like a star about to go into supernova, Israel is contracting.  But when Gog and Magog breaks out.  God will fight for Israel and they will not only gain the ground they just gave up, but will expand to the full promise land that they have never received.  They will need it because after this war, God gathers the remnant of Israel from the nations.
