The Bible says 38 years here:

"And the space in which we came from Kadesh-barnea,
until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty
and eight years; until all the generation of the men
of war were wasted out from among the host, as the
LORD sware unto them." Deuteronomy 2:14

Calculate the exact number of days as follows:

START  [Date: day=20, month=2, year=2]

"And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the
second month, in the second year, that the cloud was
taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony. And
the children of Israel took their journeys out of the
wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the
wilderness of Paran." Numbers 10:11-12

END [Date: day=10, month=1, year=41]

"And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day
of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the
east border of Jericho." JOSHUA 4:19

Measuring using a 'prophetic' 360 day year, these are
the results:

Start date [20d,2m,02y] equals = 20+30+360= 410th day

End date [10d,1m,41y] equals = 10+0+(40*360) =14,410th
day

Difference equals = (14,410 - 410) = 14,000 days

That explains where 14,000 day generation comes from.
It is over 38 years, not 40, because of the time
Israel spent receiving the Law at Mt. Sinai and coming
up to the land, before they were turned back to
wander.
