"To Donna Skinner - Name
of God"
Hi Donna,
We who believe that the Bible is the Word of the one
true God need to know the name of the One we worship. This
distinguishes Him from all others.
In the Old Testament every time you see the word LORD
in capital letters, the Hebrew word is YHWH. This is the name
of our God. The word "God" is a title, not His name.
He tells us over and over and over what His name is. Here are
just 4 examples:
Exodus 3:15 "...YHWH God of your fathers,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me
unto you; this is my name forever..."
Exodus 20:7 "Thou shalt not take the name of YHWH
thy God in vain..."
Isaiah 42:8 " I am YHWH that is my name..."
Jeremiah 16:21 "...and they shall know that my
name is YHWH"
Read your Old Testament and you will see that His name
is YHWH and He distinguishes Himself as the Creator, the one true God and
set apart from all other gods. He is holy which means "set apart" for He
is set apart from all creation and from all other gods that people worship.
(YHWH is a form of the verb "to be" and so it speaks
of His eternal existance. His Name is not pronounced by most Jews.
Some people pronounce it Yahweh. Some English speakers change it
to Jehovah)
The Moslems worship Allah which is a title and this is
not the name of our God.
We worship YHWH the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
the God of Israel; and the Messiah is Yeshua, Son of the one true God.
Only those who follow the Tenach and Brit Chadashah
(Old and New Testament) worship YHWH. All other religions worship
other gods.
I hope this helps in some way to answer at least one
of your questions.
Shalom,
Roberta.
