Your points are well laid out.  I saw a program with Laura Bush being interviewed by Larry King at Christmas 2003, in which she states the White House was decorated with a Harry Potter theme and that she had read the entire series of Potter books last summer and enjoyed them.  As a librarian she thought they were good literature for children to become interested in reading.  I also saw an article regarding her Christmas interview with Larry King in Koenig's World Watch Daily online in early December of 2003.
