The Karaites, who go by the sighting of the new moon, found aviv barley early enough to agree with the Hillel calendar this year.  So its safe to say that this year, the Hillel calendar is in sync with the cycle it should have.  In fact, the sightings of the new moon have been in unusually good agreement with the calculated calendar this year - more than usual.  It's not unusual for it to be 2-3 days off, but has usually been within a day so far.

this year Rosh Hashanah begins on the 16th way BEFORE fall starts so it this really not Rosh Hashanah and it will really be next month???
