I happened to touch my bible math book before I read his neat post re the miracle of the 27 crosses.

In the book 27 had only a short explanation. It appears that it represents the preaching of the Gospel.
 
Breaking it down further 17 represents victory and 10 the law. In other words the gospels victory over the law.
 
This would be a very appropriate word for those Jewish policeman who have become believers.
