"The Great Commission"

Hello, John and Doves,

What!?  A commission!?

Oh, great!!

"And this gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in the whole world

as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end shall come."  Matthew 24:14

"Jesus came and told His disciples, 'I have been given all authority in heaven and in earth.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commandments I have given you.  And be sure of this:  I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' "  Matthew 28:18-20

What must each believer do to fulfill the Great Commission?  First, we observe that any valid commission covers the territory [potentially or actually] under the control of the one who sends you into the field.  What does the LORD [YHWH--the name of God] control?

We remember reading,

“The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it.

The world and all its people belong to Him.”  Psalm 24:1

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.

He existed before anything was created

and is supreme over all creation.”  Colossians 1:16

The details of what each believer is supposed to do are handled by that believer’s immediate supervisor, the Holy Spirit, who also will be familiar with the exact level of maturity of each believer at any given time.

Several verses come to mind:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.  And you will be My witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

“But as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”  Romans 8:14

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and power to do what pleases Him.”  Philippians 2:13

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”  Philippians 1:6

Clearly, success on the mission field—wherever God has put each one of us in His wisdom—is largely determined by a yielded heart.  We just have to go along for the ride!

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."  John 10:27

"...[D]o not worry about how to respond or what to say.  God will give you the right words at the right time.  For it is not you who will be speaking--it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.  Matthew 10:19-20

And this is what we tell others of what we believe:

1.    "All have sinned [a term in archery:  to miss the mark of perfection]

and fall short of the glory of God."  Romans 3:23

2.    "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ, our Lord."  Romans 6:23

3.    "Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to Him

must believe that He is, and is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

                                        Hebrews 11:6

4.    "Faith is the substance of things hoped for,

the evidence of things not seen."  Hebrews 11:1

5.    "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."  Romans 10:17

6.    "For by grace are you saved by faith.  And that [faith] is not of yourselves;

it is the gift of God, and not of works [effort on our part],

lest anyone should boast.  For we are God's workmanship, created for good

works prepared for us by God, that we should walk in them."

        Ephesians 2:8-10

7.    "And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart

that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is by believing

in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing

with your mouth that you are saved.  As the Scriptures tell us, 'Anyone who

trusts in Him will never be disgraced.'  [Isaiah 28:16]  Jew and Gentile are

the same in this respect.  They have the same Lord, who gives generously

to all who call on Him.  For 'Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD

will be saved.' [Joel 2:32]"  Romans 10:9-13

Regarding the name of our Savior, it is written,

" 'She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus

[YHWH is deliverance], for he will save his people from their sins.' "

                            Matthew 1:21
