"Suicide of a
Superpower"
Dear friends:
Former Presidential candidate, best-selling author, and
political pundit
Patrick J. Buchanan has a new book out:
Suicide
of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?
His premise is that America is disintegrating. The “one
Nation
under God, indivisible” of the Pledge of Allegiance is passing
away. In a
few decades, that America will be gone forever. In its place
will arise a
country unrecognizable to our parents.
Pat can sometimes be pessimistic, but he is also very
insightful and
often correct.
He says that as recent as a generation ago, America was
relatively
unified. Most people agreed with what is right and
wrong.
Most people knew the true God as the God of the Bible.
No, they
were not perfect, but most agreed on essentials. And
most were
patriotic.
An Amazon.com book review says, "America was born a Western
Christian republic, writes Buchanan, but is being transformed
into a
multiracial, multicultural, multilingual, multiethnic stew of
a nation
that has no successful precedent in the history of the
world. Where
once we celebrated the unity, the melting pot and shared
experience, that
the Depression and World War gave us, our elites today
proclaim, “Our
diversity is our greatest strength!” -- even as racial,
religious, and
ethnic diversity are tearing nations to pieces."
I have not read the book so I am not aware whether or not
Buchanan
approaches the subject from a biblical, prophetic
perspective.
However, perhaps without realizing it, his argument is totally
biblical.
Jesus described the time of His coming: "Nation shall rise
against nation" (Matthew 24:7). The word nation
in the
original Greek is "ethnos," where we get the word
ethnic. It does not necessarily mean nations within
political
boundaries. Jesus is saying that ethnic groups will be
fighting ethnic
groups and classes of people fighting each other within
nations.
This is increasingly happening around the world, in America
and
elsewhere.
For example, Barack Obama, an anti-American and Marxist, is
actively
promoting class warfare in his own country: blacks and
Hispanics against
whites, the rich against the not so rich, etc. We are an
increasingly divided nation. That seems to be his agenda
and
goal.
What is happening in America and in the world is exactly what
Jesus
predicted before His return.
