Acceleration of the Universe
I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one may rob you of your crown (Revelation 3:11). And behold I am coming speedily (Revelation 22:7). He Who gives this warning says, [Surely] I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily) (Revelation 22:20)
It has just been announced that an Australian National Universe scientist (in Canberra where I live), Brian Schmidt, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics - the first Australian to do so in almost 100 years. Now the technical aspects are way beyond my understanding, but, in simple terms, he was awarded the honour for his groundbreaking work using exploding stars to discover that the expansion of the universe is accelerating, rather than slowing down as expected. He also posited the existence of a mysterious dark energy that is pushing the cosmos ever faster apart.
In the Book of Revelation one of the great truths is that when the coming of Jesus draws near, there is an acceleration of God’s purposes for Israel, the church, the world - and the universe. We are living in such times - how great are His purposes, what mysteries are unfolding. And Israel scientist Daniel Shechtman was last night awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his discovery of quasicrystals, a mosaic-like chemical structure researchers had thought was impossible. Maranatha!
