Frank, I agree things, places & people can be affect/infected with/by demons. I explain it to those who have not experienced it, that, like most pop culture idea of 'hauntings', that yes, demons CAN inhabit areas, houses, things...they can lurk around a person, shadowing him/her as it were.

Objects can attract demons. I don't know if the object might acquire it by the use of it by a person who brought the demon to it, or if it was, as you put it 'consecrated to' something other than God.

It's akin to going into a smokey room, when you leave, smoke will cling to your hair and usually linger on your clothes. Some people may not even notice it, but others will have an allergic reaction to it. Such is the way with demons. For whatever reason, some people will be affected by demonic activity more than others. Perhaps the demon senses the strength of the Lord on a person and wants nothing to do with them, or perhaps that is the exact reason why it 'messes with' the person.

Some people will never have any problem, then suddenly, after having contact with some object...they can feel 'something' has happened...these are things that people often attribute to 'ghosts', 'hauntings'. Reality TV shows are making a fortune off these deceptive spirits. Some of them recognize they are dealing with spiritual entities (not the ghost of people past)...but they have NO IDEA just what it is they are dealing with. The dangers are there.

I saw a group of those 'ghost adventures' guys at Comic Con (multi media & entertainment expo), I almost walked up to them (not through the huge line of 'fans', but beside them where the guards were), and told them to please pray on what they are doing. They are in the lime light now, having fun, feeling they are just doing good work to 'help' people and the departed...but they are putting themselves and everyone around them in danger. I know they wouldn't have listened, or if they did, just assumed that they knew better than some housewife at a convention.

But yes. Things, people, places...all can be 'haunted', affected, inhabited by, followed and tormented by demons. The most frightening part is it isn't always NEGATIVE! Satan loves to fool people into thinking they are being visited by 'friendly spirits'. That is a classic way to lead people astray.

Be on guard. We always dedicated our children and everything we have to God, in fact, we acknowledge that all we have is HIS and we are just the caretakers for a time.

Be aware. Be prepared. Know who is in control, give it all to God.
