Many first century Jews did not recognize Yeshua as the proper Messiah because they interpreted the Scriptures of Prophecy differently than they ended up being fullfilled. They were expecting 2 messiahs to come at about the same time - one who would die in battle as the suffering messiah, and the other Messiah that would reign as king and even raise the suffering messiah from the dead. They came close, but missed it. Many modern day christians may end up failing to see how the events in Scripture will play out because they will be too busy making the same mistake. Many people are expecting all of Prophecy to fit into a 7 year timeline mostly because.....other people told them it should. Because of that they can't make sense out of the timing of Revelation ven though it's not hard to make sense of at all if you just study it without anyt preconcieved ideas.I mentioned at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/oct2010/jovial1012-2.htm that the purpose of the 7 year period mentioned in Daniel 9 is for one purpose; to help identify WHO the False Messiah will be. It's purpose is not to tell us how long the tribulation period will last. And in fact, the 7 year period of Daniel 9 will end before Yeshua returns. No one knows exactly how long the period of tribulations will last, although I did demonstrate at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/oct2010/jovial1012-1.htm that the 3 Woes will last at least 90 months, so the entire tribulation period will be in excess of 7.5 years, and probably significantly longer. Many 1st century Jews missed who the real Messiah was because He did not fullfill how they expected prophecy to be fullfilled. Perhaps many modern day Christians will miss who the False Messiah is because Scriptures will not be fullfilled the way they are expecting with everything fitting into a nice neat 7 year timeline ..... just like their pastor told them it was suppose to do because..... that's how his pastor them them it would happen. But there's several pieces of information that prove that the 7 years of Daniel cannot be the final 7 years before the Messiah's return. First, there's the fact that the Abomination of Desolation is timed 30 days after the 7 year period ends (which I showed at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/oct2010/jovial1012-2.htm). Then I showed at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/oct2010/jovial1012-1.htm how the 3 Woes are at least 7.5 years (90+ months). As far as I know, I don't even think the 7 year trib idea was discussed prior to the 19th century AD. There's no record of such a timeline in any of the pre-Nicean writers. If you can throw off the pre-concieved notions, you just might be able to get somewhere and find out what G-d is REALLY trying to tell us.Shalom, Joe
